Keep or return: summer dress & sandals

I know this dress is basic boring black, but I'm having trouble finding comfortable summer dresses that are long enough, and this one fits the bill. It has a twist front at the empire waist, and I would probably not wear it with this necklace. Does it pass muster?

Then there are these sandals. Are they too clunky? I am having a really hard time finding cute black wedges.

Yes! I think those are both good basic pieces....I would wear a short chunky necklace and maybe a bracelet....they both look great

Keep to both! The dress is a great basic for summer, and the shoes look very current. They are not too clunky at all!

Looks like a great dress. I would wear a different necklace though... or no necklace at all. I"m not loving where that one is hitting right at the v of the neck.

and squee, I'm so excited... I have those very shoes due to arrive on Tuesday. They look really nice on you. I say keep both.

Perfect! Love this on you! I love the sandals too. They don't look clunky at all--just summery and fun! This is exactly the kind of dress that I love--so easy to wear and accessorize.

I love both pieces. I also love the necklace but I think it is competing with the dress.
I'm sure you'll wear that dress a lot either with wedges or flats.

I think they both look like very versatile pieces. I agree that a different necklace would work better -- I would go with a shorter one that shows the neckline and the necklace both to their best advantage. You could have a lot of fun accessorizing this dress, since it's simple and clean. A bold beaded necklace, or bracelets, jacket, etc. So many options!

I agree with everyone else - keep both. The dress is a great staple.

I like both. Keep them but don't wear together.

I would wear some bright, colourful shoes since it is a summer dress.

I would use the black of the dress like a jeweller uses black felt to display their wares. Make the colours you do wear POP.

Lots of fun bangles/bracelets etc.

I think you look gorgeous! That dress will be easy to mix up with different shoes and accessories - a metallic flat sandal or something for day and great with a denim jacket or cute cardi!

How do your skinny little ankles hold you up- they are so tiny!

I like the sandals a lot and the dress looks like a nice breezy spring/summer basic. I'd keep both!

Keep them both, and I agree with the others about the necklace length. I *really* like those sandals on you. With your long legs, they don't look clunky at all - quite the opposite, actually.

Thanks everybody! I completely agree about the necklace...I just didn't have a better photo, so I used this one. The dress is Merona from Target, and yes Queen Mum, the shoes are these: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/fr.....tback=1323.

DanaLynn, that's not the first time I've heard that about my ankles. I guess they must really be freakishly small! No wonder my boots always bunch up around the ankles.

ETA: If you're considering the sandals, note that while my tiny ankle situation may be part of the reason behind this, I agree with the reviews complaining that the footbed of the sandals is long enough, but the ankle straps are a bit big and can't be adjusted well. I am still trying to decide how much of an issue this is going to be.

Love the sandals. The dress is a good basic but you need colorful accessories in the summer to brighten it up, otherwise the look is too dark. I myself LOVE LOVE LOVE the color black but always must remember to do this, especially since I am blonde and pale!

Thanks ladies. Scarlet, don't worry--I ended up liking the fit so well that I went back and ordered it in aqua too. I also prefer colorful dresses for summer, but at the moment I have found a grand total of *one* dress that works, so I have to go with what I can get!

CocoLion, you are right: I'm going to have to work on the colorful accessories thing.
