Keep or return - plaid button down

Remember my resolution to shop for tops? I wasn't that successful until now, but I found one button down shirt today that's not a totally bad fit on me. The waist nips in without being too tight around the hips and it's only a tiny bit too roomy on top. The sleeve length is great. And it was on sale. The colour in #3 is a bit too blue, but it's more accurate than the first two pics colourwise. What do you think? Is it too boring and/or frumpy? I didn't style anything in these pics, please excuse my dishevelled look.

Astrid, I'm pretty new here and haven't run into you frequently enough to have a handle on your style--and style goals--to sense what works for you. For example, I was reading while looking at your pics and thinking, "Maybe this top is for work?" But then I read further down and you're asking if it's boring or frumpy, so I'm getting the idea that this is a shirt you just wear for your own self, not in a work or other restrictive environment.

That said, you could still be someone who likes certain cuts of clothing, and there's weather (cold, right?) and other issues. So I hesitate to step over the line. Personally, my thought is that you're very young and pretty, and something about the blouse does seem a little frumpy to me. Not necessarily because it's buttoned up so high. I think it could be the plaid pattern. Plaids are hard to do without looking a bit outdated, rustic, or manly.

But if this is the type of cut you're really comfortable with, please don't feel bad about it. I think you may just find some pattern that looks a little more flattering to you.

(By the way, this is completely unrelated, but am I the only one to notice that you bear a really strong resemblance to a fashion blogger named Sal? I see an uncanny likeness in your eyes and smiles. I'll post a link to her.)

You are too adorable to ever look frumpy. I think this is a great fit and a preppy/fun pattern that totally suits your style. I can see it with jeans or your denim skirt. I could see it with your black a-line skirt too. You could tuck it, belt it , wear it under a sweater or wear it as an outer layer. You must keep it!

Thanks for your elaborate answer. Mochi. I didn't want a button down especially for work, but I decided a few weeks ago that I really needed some new tops and didn't want to buy longsleeved T-shirts anymore, but wovens and knits. I thought to wear this everywhere. Cold weather plays a role, yes. And the cut is my favourite because it's very hard for me to do waist surrendering tops. With my figure I easily look 10 pounds heavier in a boxy top. I get what you mean about the pattern, maybe I should have styled it before posting. I'll definitely keep looking for other button downs, but they are hard to find in the right fit, almost as difficult as jeans. I know Already Pretty, that's actually how I found YLF! Although I never thought I looked like her.

Cute, I vote yay! And am 100% in agreement with Lyn*'s assessment I would love to see this styled with a distressed or rugged element to counter that ruffle.
