Keep or return: Miss Sixty Harper boots

I lusted after these boots and finally ordered them (on sale!) from Piperlime:

They are not really what I expected--I thought from the picture that they would be more grey, but they are quite dark--they read more brown than grey, to my eye. I can't tell if I'm actually in love with them or in love with what I thought they would be. They look sort of big around the ankle, to my eye, but it may be the cuff styling, and they could not be any smaller through the calf and zip up over my jeans. There's a lot of leather around my calves--does it make them look too chunky? (I do not have wide calves.)

I included pictures with both jeans and skirt, but I'm not sure how well the dark taupe works with brown (what do you think?), and I don't have a grey skirt yet (on my list), so I am not sure how much I would really wear them with skirts. I have brown-grey skinnies that I think they would look great with. Other possible pairings?

You'll notice in one of the pictures marks on the leather. The last three pairs of shoes/boots I have bought have all come 'marked up' this way--I'm not thrilled about it. Is this just what one should expect from online shoe shopping?

I like them with jeans. I think that style is meant to be big around the ankle.

I am extremely unhappy about the scuffy-ness. I would not be happy with online shoe shops that sent me this. I'd send them the photos and see what they would do. I have bought shoes online from Quarks and they sent me some free boot polish, a coupon for a further purchase, and an offer for free shipping back to them if I so choose Or I just complain a lot!

How disappointing Stephanie! That's what always puts me off online shopping when you get either something damaged or it's not what you expected. I would be definately complaining about the scurff damage too - do they get shipped in their box?

I think they look great with skirts & jeans, I would suggest maybe wearing black tights with the brown skirt to help break up the "brown-ness" a bit. I think you could also pair them with black jeans/skirts or something unexpected like a moss green skirt?

To me they look too wide around the tops. (Although that could be on purpose.) I have this problem all the time, the only boots that really fit my calves are stretch boots nowadays it seems. My calves are slim but they are not spindly, just a little smaller than average.

The boots are unique and I like the way they look with pants but with the skirt they look too wide for you. They definitely seem damaged to me; I have never received shoes purchased on-line in this kind of condition.

I like the boots with jeans, they look a tad large with the hose on their own. I find boots that scuff easily from fingernails may arrive with a mark or two, but these look like more than one or two marks. Did you call the company to see what they say? A discount or swap for a new pair maybe?
