Keep or return jackets: A hit.....and a miss?

After my closet purge/assessment I realized I have NO blazers and jackets. I sprung for a black Theory pantsuit last month, and now I'm trying to fill in with maybe one or two other useful neutral jackets.

Photo #1 - A hit? I'm really loving this Hive and Honey tweed jacket...super affordable and flattering. I could wear this for teaching and feel very comfortable and appropriate.

Photos #2-5 - A miss? I got the last of these Vince linen blazers from Shopbop.....but I'm not feeling the boxy shape. What do you think? Is my eye just too old-fashioned to recognize a new silhouette, or is it a miss? It was on sale, but spendy just the same so I really don't want to settle...or have to do major alterations. I keep going back and forth....sometimes I think I can make it work...sometimes I feel like the Good Humor man!

Love the first jacket! It gives you a great waist shape.

he second one looks a little big to me, but not enough so to look intentionally oversized - if that makes sense.

#1 is so fabulous on you I can't see straight - does it come in another color?

#2 unfortunately doesn't do you justice, and the fabric wants to be rumply. I vote return this one and wear #1 every day instead.

The first one is fantastic.

I'm not loving the boxy fit of the second on you, but I'm very biased towards waist definition. You could get it tailored but looking at them side by side, the first one is a clear winner.

Agree--first one is great, second is so-so. You shouldn't have to work so hard to make it "work."

That first jacket looks stunning! I have to agree with the others that the second one looks a bit big, but not enough to be intentional.

The second looks like one David Byrne and I had back in the 1980's, so nay to it.

#1 is fabulous on you. Consider buying a second, if it comes in another color! #2 is a no, I think.

Thanks everyone! I guess I knew the Vince jacket was a miss, but I needed confirmation! The H&H tweed blazer comes in one other color--"moss," which is a dark green. I wish it came in a lighter color.....not really feeling "moss!"

#1 is stunning, truly. Terrific shape for you and SO versatile. Dress it up, dress it down - perfect. #2 looks too big, but even sized down, I don't think it would do you justice.

#1 is great. #2 is boxy and the fabric appears lightweight, so it doesn't have the boyfriend jacket vibe a more structured jacket would.

#1 is fabulous. #2 doesn't even compare. The sleeves are too short I think, and it is shapeless. If the sleeves were let down it might work for a summer jacket over clams or skinny jeans, but it probably would need alterations to make it work. Is the quality out of this world and worth all of the alterations? Do you love the color and feel you got such a good deal on it that you would risk the alterations not coming out as you had imagined? These are things I would think about and then I'd be just like you in not making my mind up. I think the ladies are right, pass, and wait for another to come along. It seems Vince does quite a lot of boxy styles lately, to me anyway.

I agree with what Elpgal said, the second one just isn't structured enough to have the boyfriend vibe it's intending to. I say the second is a miss, and the first looks amazing and totally keep it keep it!

Ditto what Rae, and everyone else said, Nancy; wear the first every day and look fab! It's beautiful on you and shows off your tiny waist. I'd love to see it worn with a sparkly brooch, too.

Thanks everyone. The Vince blazer went back in the mail today. It was such a disappointment because it looked so cute on the website....not boxy at all.

Ah well...the perils of online shopping!
