keep or return.. is this dress boring?

I know the pictures aren't the best, so if you can't form an opinion dont' worry about it. I tried both mirrors in my house and this was the best lighting I could come up with. Played with the exposure the best I could.. sorry

I really liked it when I first put it on, now I'm wondering if it's lacking pizzazz , or too old for me. sigh.... The (to your right) hip has a little wonkiness going on, but I think I could easily fix it. The seam just needs a bit of tweaking.

Also, what do you think of the booties?

First of all, I really like the booties!

I'm not blown away by the dress. It is very basic, which is not in itself a bad thing. But I feel like I've seen you in much more fab dresses. Is it navy or black?

I think this is one of those classic dresses that need a bit of styling to reach their full potential. They're sort of a blank canvas you can dress up with jackets, scarves, jewellery, fab shoes and fun hose (check and check:-)

I had my eye on this dress, so I know it is a beautiful purple, and has a cool exposed zipper down the back.

It fits you well, and would be a great backdrop for textured stockings, scarves, etc. if your wardrobe needs a dress like this. I like it!

Thanks for the input ladies. If you look at the link you can see that there is actually a tiny bit of leather trim...around the neck and in the side bodice.

I just don't know if I resort to 'basic" too often. I was playing with it this morning and realized that I have a "basic" denim dress and black one that serve the same purpose. Both of those are sleeveless though. The pros for this one are sleeves and a color other than black.

helen- yes, i think the neckline is causing me pause. Not that I wan't to expose myself, but this does seem like an office neckline to me.

mmmmm, I just don't know. I understand fully the idea behind basic pieces but have trouble myself with them so I think I"m too biased to give a helpful opinion.

I love it as a blank canvas. It seems like one of those dresses that you could wear any day and accessorize with necklace or scarf, change up with boots, cropped jacket, blazer, etc. I wish I had more of these kind of basic dresses. Is that what you are looking for? Love the booties!

I'm with Kelly, it's a great base for anything you might want to throw on. I would love to be able to find a great basic like this one. The fit is super don't you think? Booties rock too!!

It is a nice basic, and since I struggle with basics, I'd need to see how YOU would style it. On its own it looks a little staid for you, but the fit and color are lovely. Does it fill a need? Did you keep the Eliza J. eggplant dress?

I really like this dress - the colour is beautiful on you and it's a piece that can look different every time you wear it, depending on how you style it - different accessories (scarves, necklaces, toppers, tights, boots) will change the look of this dress. i think it has great potential.

And the booties are gorgeous!

If you have enough basics, return it. Otherwise it's a great dress. Still, you have to love it and if you don't, then return it.

I think this would be a great basic to have because it is NOT sleeveless. And not black! I could have used it just last night to a casual function. KEEP!

I wasn't 100% sold at first... until I read that it's purple I think you could have fun jazzing it up, and the color adds a bit of extra kick as well. Also, love the booties (and the tights for that matter!).

I love booties and the dress. It is basic, but it fits you really well and I bet you can accessorize the heck out of it. Definitely a keeper.

Not boring at all - and if I could find something like this, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It can be dressed way up, and it can also be a more casual dress. The colour is amazing on you, and for this reason alone - you should definitely keep it. It's not "too old" or "too boring" or any of these things. It's a beautiful colour and shape, it fits you well and you look *great* in it.

I love the dress, it is not in the least bit boring. With your cool hair and the booties, a long pendant, necklace or great scarf would be all you need to have a stunning outfit. It is very Jackie O and the color is a statement. If it was taupe it might be too church lady, (No Offense- I go to church.
I love that neckline, it is very chic.)

QM, I like it a lot. I'd love to have a dress like that. You can do so much with it, but I also love it just as you styled it in the photos. It's a keeper for sure.

Definitely not boring, the adjective I would use is "effortless". The perfect effortless peice is so hard to find - and you have done it!

I agree with the ladies above: this is a lovely dress. It fits you great and you can showcase any accessory you wish: a bold necklace, a jacket, a scarf, a belt (if it doesn'tclash with the leather detail), special shoes... I think you should go and play with different accessories and take pictures along the way so you can compare the effect of different jackets/necklaces/... and we can enjoy it too
