Keep or return - grey waterfall style cardigan

I'm back in Berlin after some busy days. And I got some fashion related things for Christmas, a navy turtleneck sweater, a warm wool scarf in petrol and the best of all, my own sewing machine! I'm really looking forward to try some things out.

Now to the keep and return - I bought this grey waterfall style cardigan today. It's merino wool, very warm and not scratchy at all. What do you think about this style on me? Is it too boxy or too voluminous? I like the way it looks belted, but I don't want to keep it if I can only wear it this way. I think it's nice that it's shorter in the back, I like the length.

Please help me decide?

I like it! I have a similar one and found it challenging to style at first, but I always get compliments when I wear it. I think you're stretching your boundaries, and that can be a great thing!
You might experiment with styling your beautiful hair differently when you wear it. Perhaps in a pretty, soft updo and let the sweater be your "flowy" thing when you wear it.

Astrid - belted it is a killer! So, I would keep it and wear ONLY beltet (I know... you want to wear it unbelted as well... but I find it beltet really, really, really beautiful on you...:-))

I agree with Maga on this. I also love it belted. I think that if you left it more open on #1, that it might look better.

I also like wearing mine with a pin/brooch to secure it to the side, so pulling it to the side like #2, but securing it with a pin. And every once in a while, I will tie a tie around it like a belt. These are really wonderful sweaters IMO.

It looks fab on you belted, Astrid, and I know it works with your preferred colour scheme. I do find it a bit voluminous unbelted, but how about showing us a pic with it falling open a bit? It might be just fine in motion. I also like the idea of securing it with a brooch.

I'm a nay. I don't like where the volume hits you when it's not belted. I also find the pockets distracting. I think you can do better.

Belted is fab! The gap needs to be wider if worn unbelted, I think.

There's a lot of volume around your midsection when it's not belted, but belted it looks really nice and under control!

Pretty and flowy! I think you can wear it unbelted with super skinny cords or jeans. I also agree an updo might be good those days.

I think it meshes very well with your style! Unbelted, I think if you twirled around a lot, it would work well

It looks nice belted. HeyLucy might also be on to something with putting your hair in an updo.

Ooh, nice! It IS voluminous, as it's intended to be! It brings a softness to other items. I agree with the others who say it looks FAB belted! I vote keep!

I didn't know you live in Berlin - how interesting! Just curious, are you German or just working/studying there as a foreigner? Your English is impeccable, if you're German - I must say! (Yes, I'm nosy!)

Thanks, Helen! I'm German. Thanks for complementing me on my English! I only learned English as a second foreign language in school, the first language I learned was French because I lived fairly near the French border. I read a lot of English books though, perhaps that compensates that a bit? And a lot of the texts we have to read for Uni are in English. I'm not that good at speaking though.
