Keep or return? Flora Animalia artist's pant ETA: Returning

So, I've been doing a big clean out of jeans this fall, in particular getting rid of denim that is high waisted and ill fitting. I am down to fewer pairs than in the recent past, a total of 8:
1 pr white slim fit
1 pr black slim fit
2 pr distressed looser fit
2 pr straight cropped (1 light, 1 dark)
1 pr light cropped kick flare
1 pr light wide leg crop (these are high waisted and may have to go if I gain any weight because they are a little snug)

I ordered this pant based on an Instagram ad (yes, I am notorious for clicking) and I think I might really like them. They are high waisted but it's a loose waist with an interesting buckle at the back, and they have a cool color blocking denim which I really like. I think I can wear these with a variety of shoes, including oxford's sneakers and booties. They were an investment, more than I usually spend on denim. I'm not sure they are totally flattering but they are very comfy and would add a unique style to the pile. What do you think: keep or return?

Oh. Wow. Yes, keep them! These are SO interesting and unique, and really beyond any trend . I love the stitching detail and that little buckle at the back. These could really be dressed up too - maybe with a floral silk blouse of some kind ? And your bedroom makes me wish I had a better handle on mine - I love the floors and the New England crisp-and-tidy look.

Make sure you are okay with the slight bagginess below the waist and above the crotch point, and that they don't bag out. I suspect you want them to stay crisp

I like them as statements for your denim collection, but wonder if a size down might be worth auditioning? You will want to wear these with tucked in tops to show the back buckle and pocket details, however tunic style tops (volume over volume) would work as well.

Oh, those are super cute! I’d be tempted myself if they were full length. But on you, these are great. I am always very attracted to distinctive denim like this but it’s hard to find a cut that works for me as well as these work for you. Please keep!

What do you call this cut? I’ve been referring to it as straight leg when I see pants that are like this on top, and continue straight down to the ground/shoes, but looking at recent posts, like Helena’s, I people use that to mean something else.
They are flattering on you. In pic 4 I also see the dress you might wear for T-day. Love that pattern even more irl than in the stock shot.

However, Angie and Runcarla are onto something. They might be too big. Which is a shame, because they only come in two sizes and this is the smaller of the two. (Not sure I have ever been sized out of anything before.) Angie, I should have known: if a pair of high rise pants fits comfortably, it inevitably means they will be too big in the hips/crotch. (I just consigned a pair of jeans for that very reason.)

I think I am returning. (Sob!) But now I know the type of jean I am looking for: crisp, trouser-like, interesting, wider legs, mid-rise. Onward.

Lisap: thanks for the kind words about our bedroom. We got a new bed and bedding this summer after we refinished the floors, and we are loving the vibe. It feels very warm and clean. It's tiny, but it's lovely.

Stagiaire, I would call these wide leg. To me, straight leg pants are narrower. Not sure if that's accurate (Angie?) but that's my take. And that little print you see peeking out is actually a robe that I snagged from the Anthropologie sale rack a few years ago. I love it!

I really like them, but now y’all make me wonder about size… so now I say, as long as they don’t fall down… I like them!

Rachylou: they don't fall down but if I cinch to help them stay up they kind of bunch up at the rear. Just not a good look.

These are wide crops. Not wide legs! Wide legs are full length.

Try a size down before you give up on them.

Viv, I have these, and they might be more what you are looking for in terms of a crisp fit. Not too high in the rise, stretchy, streamlined, and crisp. Not too tight. Very comfy.

Patch pockets instead of patchwork, though. Something to think about
