Keep or Return: Esprit Plaid pants

Insprired by JJsloanes plaid pants from Esprit, I ordered some for myself. When I got them, I realized that I'd actually ordered a different pair, the slouchy plaid Esprit pants that Rae showed us earlier!

Here are Rae's pants on me. They are an odd fit. They are supposed to be slouchy, and are really big in the waist. In fact, I can slide them off without unbuttoning! They come way down on my hips, and I'm going to need a belt to keep them up.

While they slouch on my hips, they are very fitted on my thighs and behind. I'm not sure they are flattering on my middle-aged non-model body. Should I try again with JJ'sloanes plaid pants which look less slouchy?

#1-6 shows these pants on me. I threw on a shirt and a knit top, with my running bra and clogs. I would probably wear flat brown shoes IRL

The last 2 pics show these pants from the esprit catalog, #7 the ones I ordered, then #8, a different pair, (JJ'sloane's pants).

Critical feedback is very welcome, I would like your honest opinion! Thanks!!!!

Should I keep? Should I try the other pair of plaid pants?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your body--I think the problem is with the pants. I don't like how they fit you or the model.

The back view particularly bothers me. The fabric is twisting in a strange manner across the backs of your thighs. It just doesn't look comfortable.

The crotch area on the front of the pants also has a fold in #3, making me wonder if they're too long from waist to crotch.

I'm picky though.

I want to see you in the pants pictured in #8. I'd also like to see you in another pair of drapey pants. I'm sure there are better ones out there.

I am going to say that these need to be returned. The fit just seems off to me.

Hm... I wonder if this a junior's line, or something? Seems like they are meant to be baggier, but then the waist would be huge. As much as I love them, I think I vote to pass. You have much better in your closet already.

I agree with the others. They seem to be a bit baggy in strange places in the rear - they are just cut unusually, I think. It's too bad - from the front they have potential. I vote keep looking.

Ya, I vote pass. This local designer with a shop once told me there are something like 38 standard patterns/body shapes for ladies, and a manufacturer will only work off one or two of them.

I don't love these. They look good from the front, but as other people have commented, from the back something looks off--they're too baggy around the hamstrings, so the crisp seam is lost.

I hope you know that your body looks great and that a more slim-cut pair of pants might actually look better on you! I hope I'm have a shape like that when I'm older.

These are some weird-fitting pants, no doubt about it! I say try the ones that Jeanne (JJ) is sporting.

The pants don't do it justice. But what about ordering the other ones and seeing how they work? I LOVE the plaid!!

I agree that they are not a great fit. I vote to try JJsloane's pants! I'm tempted by those myself.

These pants do not deserve your beautiful body! Keep looking and universe will provide (not that it did for me though Pants are so hard to fit for me, I also get body issues after trying them in the store and have to do a therapy session with myself afterward to regain my body confidence back

I concur with the other gals. They are not a fabulous fit for you and there is a great fit out there for everyone! I do LOVE the pants in #8 and, while it's hard to tell your body type from the photo, they look like the silhouette might be a really great one for you. I love the slouchy menswear look but don't thnk it's for everyone and I can almost tell from your body language in the photos that you are not comfortable wearing it. My hats off to you for trying it as I think that's the best way to know if something is for you. PUT IT ON! Let us know!

Thanks everybody! Looks unanimous! The pants are going back.

Pants are always hard for me to fit, but these particular ones are especially difficult. i think they'd might look interesting on a straight rectangle, with the waistband belted low on the hips and then draped smoothly down.

I have the ones in #8 on order. I have a feeling a brick and mortar store might be the best way to go, where I could try on a bunch......

I think they are suppose to fit high on your waist and be pulled in with a belt. The look has potential with a wider belt - but it might make you feel less than pulled together. Soooooo on to trying Jeanne's pants!

Could be, Angie. I did try higher up, and it looked even worse from the back; the waist bunched up......Onward to more possibilities!

I will say that that Esprit sent these in record time, with a free return label. I'll order from them again, unless it turns out that they just don't make fits for my body type....

I didn't think they were all that bad, but I was confused by all of the folds. I couldn't figure out if that was the look or if the fit was off. I think you're right to try the other pair.
