Keep or Return - dress and blazers

I am attending 2 weddings this fall and was wondering if this dress looks good or if I should keep hunting for a better one.

Also, I have a very casual wardrobe (SAHM) but I am trying to add a little sophistication where I can. I picked up these 2 blazers and was wondering if I should keep or return? I don't currently own any blazers, so there would be room in my closet for both of these if they look good, but if they don't look great I'm happy to return either. The grey one was 3 times the price of the black one (which is from H&M).

Thanks for your input! Styling suggestions would be appreciated.

The black jacket looks big to me! Can you size down? Not sure of the fit on the grewy - it looks to be pulling in some areas but too large in others when it's buttoned.

The dress is nice - my instinct is to take the hem up a notch, but with midis being the rage you may want to wait for someone wiser to chime in.

I like the dress and think it would be good for a wedding. I agree with alaskagirl that the black jacket does seem too big, at the very least, I think the sleeves are too long. Your styling looks great! Love the jeans!!

I love the dress as is. I'm feeling some uncertainty about the belt. How does the belt look a little lower (I know there are belt loops but they could be removed if necessary?

How about a pop of colour in the shoes? Alternatively nude heels? No necklace as you'd compete with the neckline, but what about a fabulous bracelet(s) or cuff?

Just a few ideas to get you thinking. Other wiser people will come up with mch better styling suggestions no doubt!

The dress is pretty on you and could work beautifully for the weddings. Having said that, it might be good to know what time of day the weddings will be and the settings of the receptions. I also wonder about that belt placement; is it supposed to be above the natural waist?

I think the fit on the jackets isn't quite right.

How tall are you? Wondering if petites might be an option.

The dress is pretty and seems to fit you well (as long as the waistline/belt is supposed to be raised Length is fine, and possibly more on trend than a bit of shortening, but exposing the knee is usually pretty flattering. . .

I like the grey blazer better than the black. Black seems to be too big (but drat how hard it is to get details to photograph on black clothing!) on you.

The grey fits better but still pretty generous if you can button it.

It seems like lots of us have migrated to blazers that don't fit perfectly when buttoned, but we don't care because we never button a 'blazer' and the fit looks so much better when it's unbuttoned (which it always is!).

Trying Petite's was a good idea. H&M doesn't have Petite's, do they? Although they have lots of cropped blazer styles and 3/4 sleeves that favor Petites.

Sara, the dress is pretty, but I think it would benefit you to shorten the hem and relocate the belt loops so you can belt the dress at your natural waist line. I love the suggestion someone made about adding pops of color with accessories, perhaps red shoes or a great colored handbag.

I do think the black jacket is too big on you; it's hard to tell about the gray one, but I really like the gray color on you. I also like the way you've styled it with the black jeans & lace-edged tee. You're adorable.

I like the dress, but agree with Kate to remove the belt loops. I'd even go with a wider belt.
I also thought the black blazer looked a tad big.
I really like the grey one, but what is going on with the pulling under the arm?

That dress would be too casual for a wedding in my opinion, but I live in Italy, so customs and dress codes are probably different. Both of the jackets look too big for you, are they available in smaller sizes?

The dress is pretty! Do you have a metallic belt and /or shoes to add some sparkle? I'm thinking silver would be pretty....

Both jackets look too big in the shoulders to me, but I'm no expert.

The dress is pretty, and I would also suggest removing the belt loops and adding a wider belt that hits you lower; for weddings, I'd say pairing very dressy heels/jacket would be ideal because otherwise it doesn't look dressy enough to me. I think both blazers aren't quite fitting you correctly unfortunately (shoulders look wide, arms long). I like the length of the black one though. Can you try both of these a size down, or perhaps in a petite of the same size?

The placement of the belt is bothering me. I really liked this dress to but avoided trying it on because of the underboob belt. I think it fits you nicely and if you find a pair of nude heels you can keep it at this length. If you want to wear dark shoes you'll need to hem it at the knee.

I like the blazers. I never button mine. How do they feel on you? Do they feel big at the shoulders... it's kind of hard to tell from the pictures. I really like the gray one.n

I agree with other posters-black blazer looks too big on you, all over, maybe it can be tailored? And with dress, I would shorten it a bit, I think it would look better this way

I was shopping this morning and saw another cute blazer, but I was paralyzed because of my past failures! I need a lesson on fitting jackets!

Ooh shame! I rather liked the dress... But onward and upward. Keep trying those jackets, because suddenly you'll find ones that work better and feel so pleased with yourself! (I'm no expert, but have found that each time I've been uncertain about something, trying quite a few on has been the most help for working out what is best!) don't give up!

I am sure you will find something great. I did like the dress but felt a wider belt would be more flattering. And I particularly liked the grey jacket on you. But keep trying things, its one of the the best ways to work out what works best for you.

Ps.. 8 year olds make great photographers. Mine 8 year old son takes a lot of my photos for YLF
