keep or return: denim shirt

I'm looking for a new denim shirt as my thrifted one is a little short.

Here's one I ordered from American Eagle that is a large. Is it too big? The sleeves are long, but I can cuff/roll them up. It's nice soft material.

It's not available anymore on the website, but I might be able to track down a medium in the store.

I see also that my white pants fit terribly. Any suggestions for white denim, or even better, white linen/cotton pants to try?

I like the shirt. I really really like it. But I guess my answer will depend on how you plan to wear it. If you are going to wear it tucked in to pencil or midi skirts, it is perfect. If you are going to wear it out, I would prefer it be longer, kind of like they are showing it here:

That way you could wear it with skinnies and any kind of shoes and still feel modest and covered up.

I think it looks very nice, not too big (aside from the long-ish sleeves). I sort of agree with Rita about the length - I bought a denim shirt at BR last summer that was sold as a "tunic" but is similar in length to your shirt. I ended up only wearing it with skirts but not with skinnies.

This new shirt is so much longer than my old shirt, it didn't even occur to me that it could be even longer! I do like the length of the shirt that you posted, Rita. And I would like to wear it with skinnies.....I'll have to take a look to see if I can find a longer shirt (I think I'd like a darker wash than the one you posted, and that one is also junior sizing.....)...

hmmm, this one is very comfortable and soft though....

Do you plan to tuck or not tuck? I am not a tucker so I really like the one that Modgirl posted if you intend to wear it untucked. It looked really cute with the colored jeans on the site!

I think the chambray shirt is lovely but not a 10 for me fit wise. The sleeves are rather long whereas the length is short, if that makes any sense at all. Since the market is saturated with these at the moment, I think you can do better. I vote return.

Well I bought one that is a little small in the shoulders and when I want to wear it over another shirt, I wish I had sized up. I think the length is good on this one, and I even like the extra long sleeves. If you wear a pullover on top, you'll have a cuff to fold back over the sleeves. Maybe keep it while you see if you can find something better in your price range? Also, try it on with every possible combination you can think of. Worn as a blouse for work, a jacket on the weekend, sleeves scrunched, rolled up, french cuffed, collar popped, buttoned to the top, etc. You get the idea, have a play with it.

Meridith--- I would like a top that I could untuck---so perhaps I should look for a longer version...I don't have colored jeans yet! I am still looking for the perfect white pair!

Zap, Claire: great ideas to keep looking for a longer top.....and to try with ALL outfits I envison!
