keep or return: black AT blazer with shoulder pads!

Ok, so this blazer has some crazy shoulder pads, but other than that I think the fit is pretty great. What do you think? If I take out the shoulder pads will the shoulders look awful?

Hmm, I have a strong shouldered blazer, but it's longer and double breasted.
Although it fits you great, I don't think it quite works on you. I really do wish it was longer, or severely cropped. Right now it's a mish-mash of traditional and avant-garde styles.

Ooh, I rather like it! Look at the nipped in waist on that jacket! A keeper for me.

No idea how it would look if you took out the shoulder pads.

I like it because it fits you like a glove. If you're short on jackets, I would definitely keep.

It looks like a proper fit, but I always shy away from that shoulder shape because of my wide shoulders. If you will put it to good use, keep it!

Una, I definitely wouldn't have ordered it if I had realized how extreme the shoulders are. I'm hoping someone can chime in on removing shoulder pads. I'm curious if the shoulders would look deflated without them. I don't think I'll be keeping the jacket if I can't remove the shoulder pads...

It looks like the shoulders are meant to have that particular angular shape... I have chopped out shoulder pads, but not the internal ones. I have a feeling these may be essential to the integrity of the look. What would you pair it with on the bottom?

I'm hoping it would work with jeans (as seen here) as well as with nicer pants (I need to see if the black would work with my various black pants). Maybe some skirts or dresses too, but that might be asking too much. Basically, I want a black blazer that is versatile and can be dressed up or down.

Hmmmm. I'm on the lookout for one of those as well. I think this one makes a definite statement and may not be as versatile if the strong-shoulder look fades out again. It does fit your waist so nicely!

If you are thinking that you will not keep this if you cannot take the shoulder pads out of it - why not just return it and look for a different black jacket? - one that doesn't have the shoulder pad issue. I like this jacket, but there is something about the silhouette on you that just doesn't look right to me! - the shoulders are so extreme - it almost looks as though you are hunching your shoulders up toward your neck. There are a lot of black jackets out there - I think you could find a better one for you!

I don't love the shoulder pads, although the jacket fits you beautifully. I don't think it would look right if you removed them, either - I say try to find one that fits just like this but without such strong shoulders.

I think you might have some extra material puckering all around, if you remove the shoulder pads. I would keep looking if you don't like the strong shoulder.

Return and find less padded one.

I agree with everyone else. I think the strong-shouldered jacket look is easier to pull off if you have either narrower shoulders, or a long neck, or both.
