keep or return, Anthro edition

I went to Anthro today to browse the sale rack, and came home with two pieces that I'm somewhat uncertain about. I'm only keeping them if they're both 10s, especially the top, since it was quite expensive...

I love the fit on the silk blouse but I'm not sure about the color on me.

I liked the blue shirtdress a lot in the store but in this photo it looks...dowdier.

BTW, Anthro had a lovely silk midi skirt, though I couldn't find it online!

I agree. LOVE the top but not so much the dress. I like that it's belted but it doesn't seem to be doing anything for your figure. The top is more flaterring - keep it!

Hmm...

The dress is buttoned a bit too high for my liking. No I don't mean you need 5 miles of cleavage showing. It's just too buttoned up right now, which adds to the dowdy factor. I also think the belt could go a little higher. Doesn't seem to be hitting you in your narrowest spot.

The rest depends on accessorizing. If you can do it, it's a keeper. Jackets, fun vintage-looking tights, oxfords, belted bf cardi...just a few thoughts that come to mind...

I wouldn't give up on it just yet. It just hasn't been maximally styled.

The top is definitely a keeper.

It's difficult since we can't see the face. I understand why you would want to protect your privacy but at the same time the judgements might be useless... for example maybe the blue dress looks striking with your hair/eyes, or maybe it drags all the color away from you.

This said, I agree. Great fitting top. Dress looks uncomfortable.

I think the dress has promise. I admit I am biased because I like shirt-dresses in general. In this pic, the slightly relaxed sleeves and the sleeves line up against each other making it look like a solid wash of color and hide your waist. The sleeves also seem to end at the same point as your 'waist'. Can you roll up the sleeves a tad? Pin back the sleeves and see if it helps?

I'm not a big fan of shirt-dresses with straight skirts because they remind me of old fashioned nurse uniforms. I'm sure you could layer it up and make it cute, but IMO it's not a 10.

The blouse, however, is GORGEOUS. good job on that one!

As for playing with the shirtdress, I actually have other shirtdresses (one mauve one which I wear frequently and haven't posted here yet...maybe I will this week, and then of course the ASOS one, and of course the H&M one, but that has more of a vavavoom vibe to it than the others) so if this one requires too much work I probably don't want it that much...

ETA: added a pic of the shirtdress I already have. Sorry for the blurriness...I get lots of compliments on this dress.

Krishnidoux: My face didn't come out well in either photo so I cut it out. I'm not terribly concerned about the color with the dress, it was more the cut. Though for some strange reason, I was far more pleased with it in the store...

Gorgeous top for print and color for you, I vote keep. The dress is ok, but the mauve shirtdress fits nicer I vote return the blue one.

I think the mauve one you posted looks better than the blue in just about every way for easy wear. You can throw it on, add a belt and you're done. The blue one reminds me of an oldschool waitress at truck stop - which could be a ton of fun to play with, but not so great just to put on and go. If I was going to style the blue - it would be totally balls out: cat eye glasses, huge (fake!) pearls, bright red lipstick - sassy silliness. Oh - and I'd insist that everyone refer to me as Alice, or possibly Stella. Or I was feeling Twin Peaks'y - than Shelley.
