I think I agree with whoever said a denim dress would be better - or a slimmer skirt design.

I just wanted to say that the proportions in #4 (tucked check shirt) and the tucked striped shirt look good to me. I think maybe it's the little but of blue that makes it look more columnar.

Love the wedge espadrille idea, and also Stylefan's use of the term "fundie"

Like Angie my response ( before reading hers!) was narrower button down skirt but I was thinking more a-line than pencil. I have a denim pencil that I find tricky to style since it is fitted. I have an a line button down not denim that is just more flattering

Adela: I love those tops and will look for some like them when I go out shopping. They would be perfect for me.

Aquamarine: I think I will return the skirt. I had a feeling that I would have to. Skirts are too hard for me and yet I love the look on others. You know, I never knew how bad I looked in skirts until I started taking photos.

Sheila: I've tried every top I have that might possibly work and I think I don't have the energy or time to shop for another one. I'll stick to skinnies, crops, and shorts which are so much easier to style

Ms Maven: I'm pretty sure hemming the skirt will not work because of the piecing. I thought of it, too. I did order the skirt in a smaller size and maybe it will be shorter.

Brooklyn: I love your short top and will be looking for one just like it that fits me like yours does.

Firecracker: I didn't realize you are short waisted. It has really limited what I can wear. Glad I discovered the column of color. Cute shoes!!

Bonnie, my first reaction to looking at the pictures were the fit is off so I vote return. I tried on a few denim skirts today and struck out, I didn't realize they were so tricky to fit and style.

Style Fan: I'll try the other denim skirts on when I return mine. We have a small Anthro so it doesn't always carry everything.

Angie: I'm afraid you are right - that is too much skirt for me.

texstyle: I'm getting drawn the the idea of a denim dress - it solves the tuck or not tuck dilemma and has a built in column of color!!

smittie: I smiled at fundie, too. I do think I need a column of color and tried with the blue tops. Thanks for noticing.

AndiB: Yes, a fitted a line is what could possibly work. That one looks perfect.

Colette:

Sorry you couldn't find your skirt. Who would of thought that denim skirts would be so difficult to find and style.

It is a cute skirt but I think you could do so much better. I have the Express button-through version Angie suggested and it works great in modern retro outfits.

Aww, I like it! I guess it's the preppy in me...

Bonnie, I haven't read all of the other responses, but I will say that I much prefer the top tucked, because otherwise there appears to be just too much volume.

I agree with JAileen about the "fundamentalist" look. I think that it is probably the styling that is contributing to this. I think you would have to change out the shoes and also add some accessories that were trendy and modern to counteract this look if it is not what you are going for. (I have lots of friends in this group, so I hope no one takes my comment as negative, because it is not meant that way.)

I did see an earlier comment where you said you were not loving the skirt on yourself. If that is the case, I would definitely return it and get something else. I just ordered a pencil skirt from J.Crew (waiting for it, woohoo). It has a raw hem--not sure if that is up your alley. I like the buttoned one that Angie posted as well. I would get that one, but it will be too long for me since I am short.

There are a lot of denim skirts and shirtdresses out there now, so keep looking until you find one that you love.

Tanya: I do like the style and respect Angie's opinion since she sees clothing worn by real people. Checked with my local Express and they have it in stock, so when I get over my allergies/cold?, I'll check it out.

rachylou: You do have a soft spot for preppy and it looks great on you. I love the button-down under sweater over pencil skirt that you do so well, but have never been able to pull it off.

Gigi: Now, I'm interested in the JCrew version. I'll check it out, too. It sound perfect. Thanks for the recommendation.
