Keep or Return: Alfani Black Belted Top and Patterned Skirt

I bought this top and skirt a while ago at Macy's. They are both by Alfani. Before asking "Keep or Return" I first wanted to decide if it was something I would even wear. The top and skirt are pretty form-fitting for me. I seem to prefer (...to hide behind...) looser items and layers. Vote Yay if you think I should keep and Nay if you feel I should return. Comments and split votes welcome. The skirt is a little short (I'm 5" 10") but it does have a 1.25 inch hem that could be let out a bit. I own no belted tops or jackets, this is the first one that seemed to even look halfway decent.

ETA: Hmmmm, looking at these pics posted they look awfully tight.

Only you can judge how they *feel*, Kappy, but I don't think these *look* too tight. I'm voting Yay.

Gosh, I'm pretty new to this, but it looks great to me. I can totally understand the inclination to hide behind layers. I vote yay and would encourage you to step outside your comfort zone!

I see all of the elements of a good outfit. There is pattern, texture, shine, and great fit. I am not seeing anything that looks too snug. I think the outfit is very flattering. I think both the sleeve length and skirt length are working for you.

I voted a resounding yay. I think this is a keeper. I think it would also look nice with a colored bottom layer.

As a fellow plus-sizer, I am urging a departure from hiding behind loose-fitting clothing! Wearing items that follow curves is honestly such fun once you get into it. Based on the other reviews, I say give it a go!

This outfit looks smashing on you!!!!!! The skirt is a perfect length (not too short at all!) and the top looks very good too--the belt is great. I could see each of these pieces being very versatile. You could wear that black top with all kinds of skirts, pants, and shorts, and that skirt would look great dressed up (e.g., with an even fancier black top) or dressed down (with a nice button down or a denim jacket).

KEEP and enjoy some clothes that skim your fab shape and aren't baggy :).

A definite YAY! You are rocking this outfit and it looks so figure-flattering on you. Jonesy is right that you will get a lot of use out of these pieces, together and separately.

Kappy, I vote Yay as I think form fitting things look great on you, you are fortunate to be well-proportioned. However I would use another belt. It looks fine from the back, but from the front it looks like a seat belt to me. Hope you don't mind my frankness. : )

I should add, I like the width and color of the belt, it's just the buckle that's not working for me.

Edit: well, after reading everyone else's responses, I am in the minority about the belt buckle.

What a great outfit! It doesn't look too fitted to me at all, nor does the skirt look too short. In fact, the length looks perfect. I *really* like that skirt - the fit, the pattern, the colors. I vote keep it all! You look terrific.

Wow, I'm very surprised by all the positive replies.

April, they don't feel tight at all. Actually, both pieces are quite stretchy (Lycra/cotton blends) and comfy.

Denise, I agree the belt style is a little iffy. I like the elastic part and the width too. The buckle is vinyl which I don't like. Unfortunately finding a new belt is easier said than done. I've been looking for better belts but haven't had much luck finding any.

I like this on you. I bought that skirt and then returned it... something about it felt off but I couldn't pinpoint what it was. I've noticed we like/buy a lot of the same items.

I think it looks beautiful on you and skims your figure nicely! You might think it's too tight because you are used to baggy, but this looks like it fits just right! Enjoy looking good! : )

this outfit isn't tight at all! it looks good on you and flatters your figure without being too much. i think the length is perfect too. hiding behind layers usually looks worse imo, nothing is more attractive than clothing that fits you well!

I think the outfit is very flattering. It's elegant, and certainly doesn't look to tight to me. I agree with other comments...step out and don't hide behind baggy layers. You look lovely.

I vote yay - I love this outfit on you - and it doesn't look too tight. I think perhaps it's just because you are more used to wearing looser styles, so it feels a bit 'unfamiliar'

I WISH I could get a skirt to fit me like this one does here on you, it is super fab and a definite keeper. I like the waist definition with the belt on the top. If it doesn't feel tight, I vote keep. It's a lovely outfit that gives your body a very pretty shape. These make you look slim and trim, in my opinion a loose outfit can often make someone look even larger since there is not structure to show where the body is. Great find with this outfit!
