I ordered the Athleta sweatshirt dress which came today. It fits but I'm wondering whether I should size up. If it shrinks it will be too body con for me. Has anyone who ordered it washed it yet? I've not ordered anything from Athleta except hiking pants so don't know how their items fare in the wash. Thanks for any help you can give me. It's wrinkled from the shipping process which should hang out.

Hard to tell about size from a side view. Is it 100% cotton? I’ve found that sweats (not Athleta) sometimes tend to tighten up a bit on washing, but relax and sometimes even bag a bit with wearing.

It looks like a good fit in the photo - great color on you! Agree with Sloper that it is just as likely to relax as shrink - assuming you don't put it in the dryer.

That said, it's always good to compare sizes. I vote order a size up too. See how that looks.

Cotton fleece can shrink a little in the length - although not always. I have fleece sweatshirts that haven't shrunk a bit! Not even when I deliberately put them in the dryer to shrink.

Sloper, Jaime, and Angie: Thanks for the help. It fits really well and hanging it to dry will probably be a good idea. There's an Athleta store in a nearby town that I'm going to tomorrow so I'll take Angie's suggestion and try the dress on in a larger size.

I hope it does not shrink because this looks perfect. A great dress to wear to casual Christmas catch ups.

I like the fit, but as Angie says I’d try a size up as well, especially if you can do it easily.
I have a number of tops, including a variety of fleece from athleta. I don’t remember anything showing noticeable shrink. That being said I really put anything in the dryer

The dress looks fabulous on you! I have a few of the Coaster Lux sweatshirts from Athleta and they do not shrink one bit. Perhaps compare the fabric content of the dress to the Coaster Lux garment to see if there is any shrinkage possibility. The dress seems to fit you well on the shoulders so a size larger might be too big. This dress is a keeper!

Not putting it in the dryer is a good idea and Ms. Liz idea of comparing the fabric content was great but it turns out the two items vary a lot. However the Coaster Lux sweatshirts look really nice and would work as birthday gifts for my granddaughters in early January.

It looks fantastic on you. I love the color. I looked it up, and it's 70% polyester, so I don't think it will shrink. And the spandex should keep it from bagging out.

I like comparing sizes, though!

Thank you, Firecracker, Carol, Suz, and lyn67: I've decided to keep the dress, dh likes it a lot and he is particular. He usually is complimentary but when I press him, he tells what he feels and is usually right. I ordered these green sneakers to try with the dress for a casual look. I had to order Big Kids size 7 to get the green which looks like it might match.

I have a gifted sweat shirt dress in grey with white lining but it is not Athleta. It has shrunk in length, and needs washing to freshen it up. I have seldom worn it. Maybe a big blanket scarf would help. I did not wear it at all last cold season. Instead I reach for a sweater dress, which is casual enough. I like the color of yours. Wearing it with tights the same color would help with the shrinkage.

Size looks good to me! I haven't had shrink problems with Athleta- but just have full on gear like leggings, tanks, skorts.

Angie, Joy, & suntiger: Thank you for your comments. Angie, I hope it works. Joy, I ordered some green leggings. I plan to hang the dress to dry, hopefully that will help. Your sweater dress sound very useful, I've never had one but maybe some day I give one a try. suntiger, Same with me, I have four pair of Athleta hikers that I've worn for four years that still look great.
