Hello ladies, I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I finally managed to take pictures of a couple of things that I am intending to return next week. I'd love to hear your opinions to check if I am on the right track.
1 - Nordstrom turtleneck from YLF store. I like the color, but I don't think it's the best fit for me with the shoulder ruching. I feel sort of like a box... even though in the picture it looks better than I thought.

2 - dress from Anthro sales rack. Nice color and shirtdress details, but I think I look too top-heavy in it, partially because the waistband is above my natural waist. Here it is on Anthro site.

(BTW, the jeans in the first picture are the smaller size Elsons. Still thinking what to do about them - can't decide if they could accommodate 5 lb weight gain without fit issues. Or if I should return both sizes for now and wait)

Marianne! The turtleneck looks fabulous! You look better than the model. The colour is sensational against your skin tone. A big fat KEEP from me.

Don't know what Angie is going to say about the dress, but I like that too. I don't think you could look top heavy if you tried.

They both look good. But I hate when things fit oddly around my waist too, I tend not to wear them...but the color blue is beautiful:)

I do have a history of being drawn to the wrong types of dresses for my body type, but I can't quite articulate what exactly the issue is. If the waist were a little lower and it had a blousy effect, it would have worked better, I think.

The dress looks nice, you don't look top heavy at all.

Those sleeves are hard to wear and can make your shoulders look broader than they are. A tailor may be able to narrow that sleeve/shoulder depending on the construction.

I like both of them! Keep the turtleneck definitely!

I love the colour of the dress and it flatters you so much. The shape of it is also quite flattering but it's something about the pockets that bothers me.

I am awfully new here and still learning so much, I'm eager to hear Angie's take on the dress also.

My two-cents is that the turtleneck is very good on you. Not the traditional fit, but that's what makes it unique as well.

The dress is a great color on you and seems to fit very nicely, but maybe Dawn is on to something about the pockets. Hmmm. . .

I’m back, Marianne!

The colour of the blue dress is sublime against your skin tone. Have you rolled up the sleeves? They look different on the site. I think the dress looks really sweet, but I’d like to get to the bottom of the sleeve mystery. Add a necklace too :0)

Thank you very much for the input! Angie, the sleeves can be fastened at the shoulder with a strap. It was actually sold with the sleeves rolled up, and I am not sure which way looks better. I love the color, but I returned it today. I figured there will be better options I was just curious what it was about the style, just so I can focus better in the future.
Of course, I couldn't come home empty-handed and picked a navy military-esque jacket at CM sale. Ever since the navy+black blog post, I've been really drawn to that combo.
