Keep or Return- new handbag - YouLookFab Forum

I would like to get some opinions, although I think I know what most will advise. I bought a beautiful, pink purse with gold hardware from Balmain. Not something I have done before, as this is expensive, but the color is amazing, a blue-toned pink, and the size is perfect!

The hardware is throwing me, though. The gold is “brushed” , not shiny, which I did not pick up from the website. I went back to the website to check, and when I enlarge the photos, it is indeed intentional.

So I am trying to decide if that is a deal-breaker, or should I love it anyway? While it is super expensive, without sounding like a jerk, it is not going to affect my budget in any way…. Photos follow, including photo of a Burberry purse with the kind of hardware I imagined. Thoughts?

No one can tell you to love something you don’t love. Whenever I have compromised on a high-budget item, I’ve regretted it. Hold out for the version you love.

I like the idea of brushed because it won’t show wear the way a super glossy/shiny finish might once scratched. That’s assuming lots of use, so some wear and tear. On the other hand, if it’s not what you really want/love - return.

Don't we all have a common aspiration style goal of a wardrobe where everything is 100% tailored to our personal preferences and likings?

I think Betty Halbreich summed it up perfectly when she said that you will never grow more excited about a wardrobe item than you are in the first moments you see it or hold it or try it on. So if you aren't thrilled by this bag, I vote send it back.

I do think this bag is soooo gorgeous. I actually sighed aloud when I saw your photos - but the brushing doesn't look intentional. Because it's Balmain, I wonder if you could examine other bags and see if there is one where the brushed finish looks more intentional.

Runcarla- IKWYM about the wear showing less. I think it was just my mental image of what I thought it was, contrasted with the still beautiful reality.

Mary Beth- hmmm. I actually have some items that I adore wearing and love as much as when I first got them, but good point. I would look, but love nowhere near this brands stores. Originally I ordered one from Saks, but when I received it, I thought it was a one-off damaged or used bag, so I returned it and ordered from Balmain directly. Guess this IS the intentional look.

I think this is a beautiful bag and personally I like the brushed gold and how it works with the pink colour. However, I have to agree with everyone, that for an item like this you want it to be 100% perfect and completely thrilled with it.
