I keep changing my mind about this one - Calvin Klein (from Macy's).

Con: The collar bothers me. It's very wide and makes my already broad shoulders look even wider. I don't love the buttons on the side pockets. It feels like one big rectangle.

Pro: Nice EUC (Earthy Urban Chic) piece - soft, earthy color; looks both cozy and classy to me. Haven't found anything else at all that even comes close.

But that wide collar ... I just don't know!

I like it. I don't think it makes you look broad shouldered or boxy. It has a little shape to it with out being form fitting.

I like it and think it's a nice, cozy, soft yet interesting piece. But if you don't love it, don't keep it.

You have to love outerwear. I am still strugging with a Nordies coat that looks good on but gaps in the front so I am not sure how cold I will be.

Overall, I think the coat looks very nice. I like the color and shape. I think the collar adds dimension and that it does not make you look broad shouldered. I also think the pockets break up the rectangle shape and give it some dimension.

Still, you have to really like outerwear as it gets so much use.

I think it looks nice and I like the shape of the coat. It is a wide collar but I don't think it makes you look broad shouldered at all. I would keep it, but if it's really bothering you then return it. Life is too short to spend wearing clothes that don't make you happy

I don't find the wide collar unflattering on you, but if you don't like it it will only bug you later. I learned this from my last winter jacket. I am not super fond of the color though, maybe it's just the lighting in the photo, but it's somewhat drab. It's a hard color to pinpoint actually. I think if you returned it you could definitely find something more to your liking, and there are SO many good sales on jackets right now.

The collar doesn't make you look broad shouldered to me, but it sounds like you are talking yourself into keeping it. Can you hang onto it without wearing but keep looking?

I've got a poisoned eye for collars with lapels that extend from shoulder to shoulder; the proportion just looks off to me.

I really like the color on you, and it looks soft and cozy. You seem too equivocal about it, though. I vote return and keep looking.

Love the colour, and the collar, but it looks unbalanced - it would work well if it were a longer coat. Pass and keep looking. SHould be some good sales now!

I love the body fit, and I actually love its earthy drab color (a variation on taupe, right?), but I know exactly what you mean about wide lapels on yourself. I do not like them on me at all.

Now yours look fine to me - a litte dramatic but not uncomplimentary - and if you wore a scarf it would visually cover up some of the collar, but you don't want to be obligated to use a scarf.

Is that what your gut is telling you? However, if Angie came along and said something was fab, then I'd look at it with fresh eyes. However, no matter what, YOU need to be pleased with your coat. . .

Taupe! Taupe!! Not drab...And I agree with Sarah. A scarf tucked into that neckline would do wonders -- you really should try it.

Having said that, my motto is also "when in doubt, don't."

I don't feel it makes your shoulders look wide- if anything the look a bit narrower to my eye. But there is something a bit peculiar about the proportions.

I vote return. Your instincts are right. The collar shortens your neck just a little too much. I like the vibe though - very EUC. Almost right!

My HH insisted I get this coat for Christmas. I too was concerned about the width/bulk of the collar. I have fallen in love with this coat and have been wearing non stop since he purchased it. (long before the holidays.) I always wear it with a scarf or button down to offset my/Angies concerns about neck proportions. The color is much nicer in person and it shows zero signs of wear.

If you have doubts, pass on it. You'll not be satisfied and find yourself still looking for a coat.

Angie has spoken! I tried to comment on this several times but couldn't figure out what was off about it. I'm glad Angie can articulate the finer details so well. I learn so much here! Btw, what did you decide about the boots?
