Keep or cull this top? ETA - culled!

I'm doing some culling of my spring wardrobe and am wondering about this top. Sorry for the crappy ipad pics, I'm super tired, the baby has been sick and I'm getting it myself, so I had no energy to set up the tripod. The top is a sheer silk, feather print from Club Monaco. I'm really not sure what I think of it. I actually wore it mostly while I was pregnant, the looseness allowed for my belly to expand, and so I think that's why I have no idea if I like it now. What do you think of it, does it look current or even good on me? Thanks!

It looks very soft and bohemian to me. The neutral hues are good on you, but you seem to be going in a sharper direction to me style wise. You could always wear this under a blazer though. Sorry, I'm no help at all!

It doesn't seem to fit your current style direction, but it looks wearable under a jacket or blazer. Have you tried that?

Ditch the blouse. Anything worn as maternity wear is an automatic out IMO!!

I would say yes under a blazer! I think it would also look good paired with your edgier pieces like your pleather skinnies.

If the person who was asking this question were unknown to me, I would answer that the top is both flattering and current!

For you, however, I think the question isn't about whether it looks good but whether it's got a place you your wardrobe. And I get the sense that soft and bohemian is not the direction you want to go in. You could totally make this piece work with your style by mixing it with more "Raisin" pieces -- do you want to invest that effort?

Do you have enough pieces that you think your wardrobe could function without this one? If so, cull. If not, perhaps try challenging yourself with some remixes? Either until you find that you love it or until a better replacement comes along.

I really like it - and think it might be able to work for summer with some of your other pieces. I like Kate's suggestion of pairing it with your skinnies, for example.

I think it really depends on how you feel about the top. Do you like the looseness? How would you wear it? Or would you rather not wear maternity-related clothing?

I got rid of almost everything I wore as maternity clothes, whether they were truly maternity clothing or not. I had problems wearing them after that and not seeing maternity, so I understand your indecision. While I think it could be incorporated into your current style as others have suggested, if you don't feel fab in it, I would purge it.

It has a lovely pattern and looks comfortable to wear.

Why not keep it for a while and mix it with as many clothes as you can before deciding?

It's very pretty and the soft colours are lovely on you. Although your style seems to be heading into an edgier more urban vibe, I think this could still work with skinnies and a jacket. I would play around with it in a few outfits combining some of your more current items and see how it works before making a decision. If it doesn't play nicely in your closet, then toss it.

If you are questioning the top, I'm thinking from what I have seen that you like things more helmut lang, simple colors and cuts. This seems less like your current style.

I think that it looks great on you! I don't frequent this forum enough to know about your current style, but judging by the photo, it looks nice. I have a similar top which is very loose, so I copied Angie's idea of using a wild black belt to cinch in the waist. It looks great over my leather skirt. You might want to give that a try.

I like this top too and also suggest you keep it! It would look good on skinny jeans or/ and a jacket. In the summer loose blouse tops are always comfortable!

Lots of good points here! You've made me think....here's what I've come up with:

It's not a maternity top, but I bought it while pregnant and only wore it then, it hasn't been worn since I had the baby, so maybe I only see it this way
It is a bit boho, but neutral, so maybe I should post a few pics of it styled otherwise. Really I should try it with other outfits, I've never worn it un-pregnant.
I haven't worn it at all in 10 months.
I like it, but I don't reach for it.
It is made short and boxy, not sure how this will translate.

So as you can see I am a poor decision maker! I will see if I can muster up the effort to style it and take more pics later tonight. Thanks for the help thus far, these points at least have me thinking about it, since I really had no opinion on it earlier.

I saw a lot of similar tops like this in the shops this morning, so I'm guessing it's fashionable at the moment but I wouln't associate it with your current style direction, so I think I'm going to vote toss.

If you don't reach for it, ditch it. That's been my motto for things that aren't obviously special-occasion wear.

Also I'm going to go back to maternity wear. I wanted to burn everything I ever wore when I was pregnant! God I was so sick of those clothes!

Like IK I had majorly negative associations with anything I wore while pregnant, maternity or not. However I do like the blouse and wear things similar myself. Whether or not it is "you" I'm not 100% sure on that.

The update is that I don't have pics to show you of it styled with other clothes. But I did decide to put it in the cull pile. It feels like a maternity top to me, even though it's technically not, and I never reach for it, probably because its not really my style now and I have other pieces I like a lot more. I guess I was hesitating on getting rid of it because it's in good shape, I like it on some levels, but I guess just not for me.

I understand where you're coming from; it seems like a waste to get rid of a good piece of clothing, right? Especially when it's served you well in the past.

I try to keep my purchases focused by requiring that I wear out my pieces before I left them go. But, I do give myself an "out" by exempting anything purchased pre-YLF

If it helps to know that the item is going to a good home, you can donate it to charity, sell it at a consignment store (I think consignment stores have higher quality bars and their customers are more motivated to treasure their items), or even offer it up on the "Style Exchange" portion of the forum.

I'm going to take it to the consignment store. I have a few items to take over anyway. So hopefully I at least get a few bucks for it!

I agree with Claire, your style seems to have sharper edges -- that's probably why you are on the fence. It's a perfectly nice top -- if you like it keep it. If you feel like it's no longer you definitely pass.
