Keep or consign: Michael Kors party dress

I got this MK dress from Overstock a while ago for a party, but ended up wearing something else - the tags are still on it! Oh, the shame.

Is it dated with the bubble hem? Too short? Too young? Should I hold onto it for winter parties and holiday events or consign it?

Yay: Keep, it will be useful
Nay: Dump it

I don't have an useful reply, but i just wanted to thank you. I now learned the difference between tulip and bubble. I confused the terms. I have a tulip and would call it bubble and people would give me weird stares.

I wonder how it would look without the bubble. I think it would be a more flattering shilouette. I guess it is too expensive to give it a try?

The bubble can't be popped (I don't think so anyway...) It has an underslip with an elastic bottom hem to keep it in place - but I could find out from my tailor.

Una, that's what mine had! Now the underslip is about 4 inches shorter than the dress, but I don't mind. Granted, I ended up with an asymmetrical hem when I 'popped' it so you might not know what you're going to get . . . Do you not like the bubble or just thinking it's getting dated? I think your studded black belt might put a little Una spin on this.

I like that it's a more modern color and pattern, and your legs look amazing (as usual) but it doesn't do much for your waist. I don't think it looks dated (are there pockets? I love that) Maybe if you gussy up the top with something? If you can get some $ for it to buy something else you like better I'd go for it, or hang on for a bit and see if an occasion presents itself.

I love this dress on you just as it is.

Take my words with a pinch of salt because I don't have e.g. Aida's imagination or Denise's analytical skills for anyone but my own styling challenges, but I have a feeling if you'd de-bubble this skirt it would lose the very characteristic that creates the sense of equal proportions between upper and lower half of your body. Plus, it is the bubble that is so interesting and makes this dress special.

This is very girly look on you, but not saccharine-girly and I totally agree with Mo that studded belt would be a great option to explore.

On a separate note, I just love these shoes on you.

I think it's adorable on you! I'm not fashion savvy enough to know if the bubble is dated, but I don't think the dress would be nearly as cute without it. If it doesn't fit with your current vibe though, consign and let someone else enjoy the bubble.

Consign. You've never worn it, it doesn't scream Una the way that many of your killer pieces do, and the waistline isn't the best placement for you. Realistically, you're never going to have the perfect event for this dress - you'll always have something that's more you and more flattering in your closet, and this dress will stay a orphan. Be done with it and move on to the items you truly LOVE!

Call me crazy, but I see this dress as a daytime layering piece, with a fitted black jacket over it, some black tights, and tough black boots or booties. I think that could be cool, and the jacket would mitigate the waistline situation. But Una, if you're not feeling it, you're not feeling it, so consign away!

ETA: I suppose it's *possible* that a bubble-skirted dress might not be appropriate for your day job, or for a weekend at your cabin, but there might be other daytime possibilities for this little number, with the right layers over it, at least in my imagination :).

It's a cute dress (and I'm not even a fan of bubble hems), and it's almost there, mainly because your legs look smokin' hot, but I'm another one who doesn't love what it's doing to your waist. I'd let it go.

I kind of love the skirt, but I find would find it difficult to style, plus it's very short. I would consign it and get something more sophisticated that is flattering for you.
