K/E: Vince relaxed leather pants

I have been lusting after these to the point of sleeplessness since seeing them on every blogger out there - not to mention a pair of slouchy leather pants has been on my forever list, to the point where I would hunt through the skanky leather at thrift stores in the hopes of finding that perfect pair. And part of my 12 x 12 (though I'm going to be done by June at this rate!) is spending what I want on fewer, better items.

Enter these, on sale and still crazy expensive but something I can see wearing all year round. This is a size small. They are too long, of course (I've rolled them up a lot), but since they have a raw hem they can be cut down easily. I find it hard to believe I'm an XS but perhaps I should exchange? The leather is insanely soft and comfy - they are like leather sweatpants. Also not this shiny, that's the flash.

On my feet are the Jeffrey Campbell slashed oxfords, which also arrived and FIT! I think they are staying but will take some better pics later.

How about the sizing? They are loose enough to slide down and sit on my hips (elastic waist). Anna, have you tried yours on at all?

There is a Vince store in Bellevue (suburb of Seattle). But I won't be able to get there till Sunday. I'm going with Amy, so I have should have a good second eye. But nothing says impractical like white leather pants. But wouldn't they look awesome with my new MMM lucite heel tabi boots.?
I have the medium on hold, but am willing to size up to a large. I want them baggy, unlike my current collection of leather leggings and skinnies.

Anna, I think these run a bit big. I mean you met me, I'm not tiny. I think it's the elastic waist. I've just ordered an XS to compare - I love the slouchiness but don't want them to literally fall off.

Yes, they will look awesome with ALL your shoes! Can't see me managing white though - you certainly can!

I know I should be the last one commenting on this avant garde look, so take this with a huge grain of salt. In all honesty, I find the elastic waist a bit frumpy. I would love to see more of an actual waistband, pleats etc. Do they actually drape? The front looks as if it would balloon as you walk, just like elderly woman pants. Bad comparison there, I know.

Hrm, I had the exact same thought as Zap right down to the elderly woman once I saw the large photo and saw they were not pleated. I would have even liked a drawstring waist, like they were literally leather sweats. I dunno, the others like them so maybe I have some deep resentment of elastic waists.

This is why I just ordered a size down to compare - I have no hips and think that may be contributing to the looks. I actually love the elastic waist but think there could be a little less material in the hip area. I would most likely never tuck with these pants.

I think they are really cool. I wouldn't expect you to expose that waistband. If you did want to tuck you could also have a belt, though I guess it would add bulk on an already bulky area and might not be too comfortable. Might as well compare sizes, though.

I wish I could get a better look at the shoes.

I love the fit on you. I think they look better on you than ALL of the models. I would not exchange them. Then they won't have a relaxed fit, which is how they are supposed to look.

I think it's difficult to get the right amount of slouchiness in a leather pant. And I'm totally with you Una -- I've been lusting after them too! So much so that I ordered these:

But they are going back. They poof out way too much and are too high-waisted.

Mm, I like the inspiration fit a LOT better. Actually, I really like the waistband exposed because it matches the elastic cuffs and makes it look a lot more like a sweatpant than a retirement pant. Do yours have the same elastic ankles underneath your roll?

I like these, but will you be happy with an elastic waistband? How do they fit in back? Pants with elastic waistbands tend to bag in the ab area, and they don't always lay nicely in the rear.
If you haven't tried on any leather pants with a set-in waistband, maybe do that first and then choose between the two.
The fit does look good and I like the sweater and hat, too!

I feel a bit like Zap and Rae that the leather sweatpant feel is not my thing. I just happened to order faux leather leggings, but I liked them because they had a waistband look and some seams in the back, so more like pants then leggings. I guess the sweatpants vibe and leather doesn't go together to well for me. I do think you wear them really well though, as someone who doesn't particularly like the style, I can still see that they work on you. I'll be interested to see the size down too though, maybe that will make a huge difference.

I like the idea of slouchy leather pants, but I'm with zap on this one. I am not a fan of elastic waistbands ... In fact I may have developed a poison eye for them. Even if you never tuck them, the elastic does something bunchy to the draping in front.

WOW, these look amazing on you! It is a difficult look to do well (as in 99% of the population probably couldn't). If you can, try sizing down to see what you prefer. Recently I've tried numerous pairs of elastic waist pants and I'm getting quite comfortable with the look of it. I just have a difficult time comprehending "you are charging $x (ridiculous amount) for elastic waist pants". But I now like the look of it exposed, for what that's worth.

I think you should try a smaller size and see how that fits.

I am not a good person to comment on these more cutting edge styles, so take this with a grain of salt. But would you always wear a shirt over the waistband? Not sure about exposing the waistband on these, and I think it would add versatility if you could. I just echo Zap and Rae that these could so easily look like retiree pants instead of the ultra cool pants in the inspiration.

Now, that said, I own a pair of dress slacks that are very high waisted with (gulp) a side zip and elastic waistband. However, these are designed not to ever tuck into, and I bought them to wear with wrap tops that don't get tucked.

Especially since they're a sizable expense, I think it makes sense to try the XS to compare. In looking at the pictures you've linked to, I think I might prefer them slightly less slouchy. And definitely you don't need to feel like they're going to fall off.

Keep for sure- it's just a matter of which size.

Thanks for all the feedback! I am going to hold on to these and compare the XS to see if those are better. I totally understand the poison eye against elastic waists, but since I rarely tuck AND I like the ability to slouch these lower or higher, it's actually the whole reason I got them (I do have a pair of fitted F21 faux leather skinnies with a real waist).

Will post comparison pix when the other size arrives, and meanwhile I hope Anna will post some pix of hers in white!

I really like the fit at the waist -- so modern. And if they are versatile all the more reason to keep them!

I think they are *gorgeous,* but I'm curious to see the XS (wondering if leather pants would bag out?). I actually like the elasticized waist :). I have several skirts and pants with that feature. I think, especially with those of us with relatively narrow hips and no butt, the elasticized waist is so versatile because you can wear it higher or lower (e.g., with a skirt, I can wear it around my natural waist, or wear it lower, thus lengthening the skirt--fun with proportions!).

I don't like leather because it doesn't breathe, but it may be perfect for where you are because it certainly is warm! Let me know how they work out - they certainly LOOK amazing!
