KC Nutmeg Coat Arrived

The UPS truck delivered the KC Nutmeg coat while I was in the shower this morning. I put on some jeans and a T shirt to try the coat on.
First impressions were the coat was too big. I had ordered a small and this was way too big. When I did the clasps up it looked bunchy.
I loved the colour but the style was not for me. It didn`t hang properly on me. This was partly because it was too big but also it was the style.
So the coat is going back.
I do have my lovely Theory coat which is a similar colour.
Mr. SF took pics and I included a pic of the Theory coat.

hmm, it does not look too big to me but if it's not working for you then of course return it. I'd say try it without that inner snap fastened (the one that is causing the bunching) but then the front would not lie right. I can see that the overall style of the Theory one is more flattering on you.

It's not big at all actually, and it hangs quite well. This is the right size. Architectural. It's not a fitted topper (look at the model). It's A-Line, and not suppose to fit like your Theory coat (gorgeous, btw).

Where is it bunching? Might need a press, as I see that the snaps are sticking out.

I like the sleeve length. Cozy.

Maybe the sleeve length is throwing you off?
Great colour, and nice look for you. More casual than the theory coat (which is lovely, and YLF!)

Oh no! Looked at the first pic and thought YES! Colour is stunning on you. There is something with a funny shape, button level on your right - I don't see it in the stock photo - so maybe a good pressing out would help?

Anythng would be hard pressed to compete with your Theory coat. The KC coat is a gorgeous color for you. Was it wrinkled out of the box? Maybe a pressing would be in order.

I'm not loving it on you when it's buttoned either. Hmm. What is going on with the bunching around where it fastens? I do like it in the first pic though. I'm also surprised that the colour is not quite as saturated as in the store photo. Your Theory coat is fantastic!

I think Angie is right, the size is probably good. I've seen that problem with double-breasted styles before. It could be the coat isn't hanging quite right from your shoulders, and it may need to be adjusted somewhat (or it may be cut for a different shape shoulder slope than yours). Often, though, this problem can be fixed, if you were so inclined, by moving the inside snap to a place the eliminates the wrinkle. I think the coat is a lovely color and style for you. It is a different animal than the Theory coat, which is beautiful on you.

Style Fan - the Theory coat is beyond stunning. It looks like it was made for you. The nutmeg coat is very pretty, agree with angie but it can't compare to the theory. That being said I find double breasted coats with a single row of buttons or anyone one button coat can tend to pull and not lay perfectly. Firecracker and those who sew would have a better take but unless the material is very dense with a lot of body, I find that the coat tends to pull even when it fits, if that makes sense. I have been successful with that type but only with a very heavy wool with a long of body to it, cashmere, alpaca - there may be too much tension on too narrow an area. That's always been my theory.

I see what you mean about the pulling/ bunching, though, and it does not have a tailored fit like the Theory (which is amazing on you!). I would enjoy it as a good alternative -- different style -- but only if that bunching issue could be resolved or possibly steamed out. I do have a coat (single breasted but asymmetrical) that had similar bunching when it first arrived and I had to take it into the Bay (where I purchased) for a good steaming. That resolved it forever.

I don't love it on you. The color is fine, but to me the coat doesn't hang right. If your first impression is overall negative, I'm not sure that a pressing will help a lot.

I love the color on you, and I love how it looks unbuttoned. I hope you could see if the bunching issue could be solved, because it is a beautiful color.

I just wanted to add: Nordstrom doesn't show any pictures of the coat fastened. This is very interesting. I ordered it in grey, and it's back ordered, but I'll be very curious to see how it looks.

Before reading the comments I was going to say it's definitely not looking too big. The shoulders seem to fit just right. I often (almost always) get long items taken in at the waist, which would probably help you here. But if you don't love it like your Theory coat, why split wears?

The coat is probably the right size and as JAileen points out Nordstroms only shows the coat open on the model. I feel like a poser in it. Much as I love avant guarde, arty, architecty looks on others I don`t love them on me. I feel dragged down.
The coat was not wrinkled actually. It arrived it very good condition. The colour had more orange in it than I expected but that is okay. I love orange. The snaps could be moved. I experimented with that.
I need to write in big letters I like structure. Smythe blazers for example.

Aha..... "I LIKE STRUCTURE"....that is very astute of you, works for me too, and explains why I too am on the fence about this coat. It's in some ways more like a structured long sweater than a real coat. Off to do some measurements and take more pics which I'll post on the other thread.

I've regretted every coat or jacket I ever bought with those ridiculous oversized snaps! A button and proper-sized buttonhole offers a bit of give, which is especially needed in a bulkier item like a coat.

It does look a little bulky when buttoned, but it looks fab hanging open. If you don't love it, though, onward it is!

Thanks for the input everyone. The coat is going back. The coat looks best hanging open but I don't know when I would wear it. It doesn't fit into my lifestyle. It was an interesting experiment.

I ordered this KC coat, but I think it's because a year or two ago I wanted an EF alpaca duffle in light grey and tan. I tried it on at Macy's and it fit me perfectly. It had the big snaps. I didn't buy it because it was *so* expensive (same ballpark as the Burberry peacoat). A few weeks ago I saw this picture of Mika Brzezinski wearing the very coat!

I hope the KC coat works out for you JAileen. The EF alpaca coat looks great on Mika. I note that she has broader shoulders than I do.
