Just when I figured out SAHM style...

it turns out I'm going back to work! So, Fabbers, I had a very difficult time figuring out my re-entry attire today. What closed toe footwear works with straight legs? All of my booties made the legs bag and scrunch awkwardly. These d'orsay style wedges were the only things I could get to work and I would have changed had I seen the picture. It's too hot to wear skinnies and boots. Thoughts? TIA! Also sharing my favorite culotte combo. I felt great in this but can't wear it to work. And of course, Oreo's new sweater

How about closed-toe ankle strap wedges? And the infamous Okalas if you can wear the heel. I'm trying to get the heeled oxford to work, but struggling with PPL.

Thanks, Elizabeth! I left my job 14 years ago and am going back to the same position--can you believe it? I have some catching up to do but it's a specialty contractor so while regs have changed, the work is pretty much the same. Dress code is casual--dark wash jeans and a blouse/sweater every day. I need closed toe shoes and will keep work boots in the car. I just can't figure out why my straight legs look so bad with all of my booties. My mid calf boots don't fit comfortably under neath them and I don't like how the booties are causing buckling.

Congrats on the new job! Let us know about your dress code! That would help me make some more suggestions. Do you have any espadrilles or closed toe wedges?

I think it easier to dress for work, even a casual workplace, than for SAH. Your style will translate!

Wow, Kelly! That's BIG! Good luck with the transition. I love your work outfit btw. I would wear short booties with a slight heel with jeans like yours, I'm not sure why they would be scrunching unless you need a higher heel or less bulky boot...hmmm! Will have to see what the other dabblers think! Culottes look Killer as does Oreo in his little outfit. Fun!

Honestly, this is why I've always had trouble with straight leg jeans, I think they are easiest with low vamp shoes and/or non chunky heels, both of which you and I both don't wear often. I find bootcuts easier, ppl issues aside, because you can wear booties or chunky shoes with them.

Can you roll the jeans up or are bare ankles not allowed? If so you could wear with oxfords or low shaft booties.

I have a few days to figure things out. I think I'll post the problematic pants/booties tomorrow. @carter and Bethann: I have narrow heels and can never get slip ons to work and I think sneakers will be too casual. @Cerinda: Okalas are going to be too much for my environmental norm. @Deb: it's all good. I feel like I've spent the last 14 years volunteering so I'm ready for a change!

@Diana: you are so right. I almost switched to boot cuts but decided it would have looked too 14 years ago so I stuck with the straights and my unfortunate shoe pairing. I have two pairs of boot cuts so might just work with those until I can figure out the footwear. Argh! Fwiw, I tried the Arlettas but the gold looked too much for work.

I think your outfit looks great, Kelly. I like the tones of the blouse, belt, and shoes together. Do you have any oxfords? I like the boyish vibe of them with straight legs, but it may not be the look you want.
And congrats on the new-old job, btw!

Thanks, firecracker! I have a couple oxfords but didn't like either of them with these jeans. The Arlettas are a burnished gold that looked too gilded and my black perforated oxfords didn't have enough of a heel. A little disappointed that all of my closet editing has left me in this position! May just have to wear work boots all day!

Eta: not sure Oreo feels lucky! She has four new sweaters

Congratulations on your reentry into the workforce. Your outfit looks really lovely. KG I think you need a heeled pump or shootie to wear with the straight leg jeans. Something with a low vamp would be good. And how about a heeled bootie or shootie and they could take your culottes to work??

Congrats, lady! Time for us to go shoe shopping? I was thinking that oxfords might be a good option too. I know what you mean re straight legs and booties; ones with a wider shaft that look nice with skirts and rolled pants have been dominant recently but thy often hang up with regular pants.

Congratulations! I would investigate: oxfords, slipper flats, and loafers. Depending on how casual, some of the dressy sneakers might works as well. You can save the booties for when the weather gets cold. Because it will . . .

You worked out the footwear in #1 really well. Try cuffing the straight legs over once at the hem to prevent excessive scrunching with booties.

I think if your straight legs had a higher waist you might like them better. And you wouldn't look "too 14 years ago" in boot cuts.
Oreos sweater is too cute. It was quite the commute, but that dog landed in heaven.
