just out of curiosity: how would you style this skirt?

This lovely teal suede midi skirt was in an email I got from Anthropologie this morning. Now, I'm not going to buy it unless it goes on major sale, as I don't wear my winter skirts enough as is (esp. since I'm currently going through an anti-tights phase), plus it would be impractical with rain/snow. I'm also unsure how one would style it, especially in a non-earthy way. Is that even possible?

In particular, what shoes would you wear with a suede skirt? Tall boots? OTK boots? Would they also have to be suede? Or could one wear, say, smooth black leather riding boots?

I think I'd actually prefer it with smooth leather boots over suede boots. Contrast in textures = good!

It's a really beautiful skirt, but as you point out, not the most practical garment.

I actually think I would NOT wear suede boots. I think smooth black riding boots are just right, or black booties with tights maybe. On top, I'd be inclined to wear something simple so the skirt could really be the hero: black sleeveless turtleneck (I know: cold!), or an ivory silk tank (cold again) with booties to dress it up. For more casual, maybe a cropped sweater since this looks high waisted or some variation on a plaid shirt to play with the suede. Maybe even a cropped denim jacket buttoned up like a shirt, with a coral scarf. I don't know if any of this makes sense.

Well, I like the smooth tan they've got going in the picture.
Alternatively, you could do grey suede, and grey tights.
I like mid-shaft boots with this.
Maybe a simple white knit top because the skirt seems kind of cozy.
Big watch.
Cobalt or cognac structured bag, maybe?

ETA: Janet's recent post about her skinny scarf and coated skinnies has a top and scarf that would look good with this skirt, I think.

I love this skirt too, but like you, I barely ever wear the skirts I have.

For me, I envision this skirt with black tall boots (my Stuart Weitzman leather/neoprene stretch ones would be good) or black heeled booties (like my pointed toe, fitted ankle Fluevogs) and black nearly- opaque tights. I'd probably like it best paired with something really simple and sleek like a black turtleneck.

I showed this skirt to a friend of mine a few weeks ago, as it's in her colour palette, and I totally loved it. We had that exact conversation... not so much about footwear, but what kind of top? You'd hate to hide the waist detail, yet who wants to wear things tucked in? (well, not either of us! )

Oooh, Vivian, I think a chunky sleeveless turtleneck would be amazing with this! (But, yes, cold... I feel like when I was younger, my arms didn't get as cold, but these days I need my arms covered to stay warm.)

So I think the smooth leather booties in the modeled picture work, but would tall boots work as well? I can't help but think it might be too much leather?

i'd actually not wear boots or booties and go for a simple sleek pump in either the same color as the skirt or a nude. i'd look for a cropped sweater....not a midriff baring one, but one that hits just at the waist.....

Diane, FYI the last picture on the anthro site shows the model with tall boots.

Chunky black harness boots for a moto-inspired look. With the buckles and asymmetry in that skirt, you could go that direction. Add a cropped black topper of some sort. I think zip-up would be best.

Or western-inspired... roper boots and silver/turquoise jewelry. Tuck in an embellished blouse of some sort.

I'd style it with smooth tall black boots, heels, no buckles or other details. The top should be a black fitted turtleneck, and I would wear a navy minimal mannish coat over this. Now I only need that gorgeous skirt.

Have not read other responses, but this is made to go with a dark paisley print pussy bow blouse, tucked in, and chunky block heel boots. Add a fringed poncho and a knit beret - 1970s perfection.

I've been eyeballing this skirt online too - and I decided it was best suited to late summer, early fall, when you can wear a shoe just like the model is. I saw it shown in a photo with one of the sweaters Angie linked to recently in a peach/rust/teal blend. I like Vivian's idea of a black sleeveless turtle and booties with black tights too.

Oooh love it! I'd wear it with black turtleneck, black opaque tights and then any kind of black leather shoe or boot. I wouldn't double do the suede. The skirt is kind of a star, I'd keep the rest uber simple.

It's such a stunning skirt!
I could also see it with very sleek (low-heeled) cream leather boots (or perhaps a very light taupe or very light grey), or a pair of cream leather (or even suede) go-go boots for a modern retro vibe.

I think there is a reason why it's shown with booties. Imagine knee high boots: the cut off line they would create on the leg would be distracting added to the skirt's hidden shorter hem. It would create just a square of flesh where the skirt opens.
It's a very cute skirt though. Calf-length boots would work. Doc Martens style certainly, if worn with appropriate funky/punkish/vivien-westwoodish top.
Or to keep it in the 70's vibe, with some Dansko clogs and a nice victorian style blouse, tucked, buttoned up, preferably with a jabot.

I like the ideia of tall boots or booties in cognac or cream, but I woud avoid suede also!

I particullary wouldn't style them with suede shoes at all!! I love and find easier to style if alternating the textures, so plain leather would be nicer in my books. Simple black (cognac) with black sheers (nude) tights? Or black opaques with the black boots/booties.

I thought I posted yesterday - I adore this skirt even though am certain it would not look good on me, because it would need to be worn with a shorter or tucked top for best effect. I think either tall leather fitted boots or ankle boot would work, as would being tall.

Krish, yeah, that was my thought regarding the tall boots too, that they would fight with the hem of the skirt. I wish that last modeled picture with the tall boots showed the entire thing.

Have not read through all replies - I'd want some gap between the skirt hem and boot, so if you go with taller boots I'd watch that - with my stumps I'd need booties or pumps.

I'd actually avoid black with this and pair it with burgundy, taupe, cream or tan. Or mustard. Or a grand combination. I think it'd look amazing with a white or cream collared or pussybow blouse, tucked and layered under a sweater vest in pattern to give it a 70's vibe. For shoes I'd have to go with a wedge bootie, personally.
