I'm trying to plan a getaway during the third week/last week of in May. I don't want to go anywhere that's overly hot - we'd rather spend time in a place that is very pretty and green, and totally relaxing. I've spent time at Whistler during their 'off season' and it was spectacularly beautiful and we really enjoyed it a whole lot.
The goal for this particular vacation is rest, outdoorsy, reading books, beautiful views and the like. For this particular trip, a real vacation is needed - ie. not so much sightseeing, trying to get to all the sights, or umpteen "things to do."
The main theme is recharge, renew and restore. Sleeping in, looking out at beautiful vistas, without feeling like we need to rush around and see all kinds of stuff. It'll be a nice break for my husband who has been working six days a week (ten hours a day) dealing with a major project. Tromping around in the woods in jeans, hiking boots and sweatshirts would be a-ok.
I don't want snow...but it's ok if it's not super hot/warm either - as long as it's pretty. An infusion of nature and 'green' would be just the thing if that makes sense. A place to relax and unwind.
What's it like at Lake Tahoe in late May? Would it fit the bill in terms of a really nice recharge? Will there still be snow?
Any recommendations for a particular area or hotel?
