I just bought a cobalt shift dress and a short white jacket. Will wear them next week to an afternoon event. I have an old pair of plain nude pumps, a pair of taupe heeled sandals, black caged sandals and great black pumps. Don't really want to wear the black though. Both the nude pumps and taupe sandals are a good heel height-about 3 inches, and comfy. Do you think the nude pumps would look best with the color of the dress and jacket, or the taupe sandals? Also will need to buy a clutch, as since I am not a purse person I do not have anything to go with this outfit. I only have evening type ones, a black beaded and a gold one, but this event is not that dressy for those Should I go with white, or a nude? and would it go if I wear the taupe sandals? Maybe a blue to go with the dress? I could actually buy more than one, as I am not going to spend big bucks on this as I will not get much use out of it,,This dress, however, will get maybe more wear as I have occasion to wear it and I love it an the fit, color, etc.

It is really tough to say without photos, but it all sounds fine in theory. Nude and taupe are both neutrals.

I say nude and a fancy print or color block clutch.

Nude shoes. Then have fun and get a great clutch. Something neon would be really fun, but animal print, floral, or something jazzy would be equally nice! It can match, or it can not match. No harm in some fun

From your choices, nude pumps sound like the best option. I like Keturah's bag suggestions a lot. You could get a white bag; cobalt and white always look fab together. Okay, just re-read your post and saw that you have a white jacket. In that case, get a bag in a contrasting color.

I vote for the lighter footwear, but the particular pair depends on the weather and the location. If it's warm and you're outside the sandals might feel better; if it's cooler or you're indoors the pumps might feel better. Both options sound like they'd work fine.

As for the clutch, your options there are plentiful. White or a print that's primarily white would be the brightest option. A taupe would be a softer option. A camel or tan would work as a more casual and natural looking option. And as Keturah said, going with something more fun would work nicely too (a floral would be particularly springy).

Another option would be to wear the black pumps and then get a black and white colorblocked clutch. That would probably net you the most graphic look if you're not wearing any hosiery.

Another vote for nude pumps, that's what I find works best with my cobalt dress. On the clutch, if your dress is simple and no print or texture, I love the idea of a standout bag. Alaskagirl had a fantastic floral one in her Nordstrom Finds post the other day and it played so nicely off her black dress.
