June SYC - week two check in

We are halfway through June so I wanted to have another check-in post for those of us on SYC this month.

I swung by Nordstrom this week to pick up a jacket I'd had altered a few weeks ago. And on my way over I passed Victoria's Secret, who were having their semi-annual sale. Since I put on some weight this winter, new undergarments had been on my list for awhile and a few of their styles fit me quite well. So... I ended up walking out with half a dozen pairs of panties and technically broke my SYC challenge!

On the plus side, I didn't pick anything up at Nordstrom or anywhere else in the mall, so it wasn't a complete failure. And I plan on not buying anything else for the rest of the month, so I'm still considering myself on SYC.

How about everyone else? Two weeks down, two to go!

I don't count undergarments as part of my wardrobe. I just buy as needed so I feel you did not break SYC. I bought a few bras at the sale.

As of today, in the first fifteen days of the month I've worn 42 unique items. I wonder if the second half of the month will see more repeats, or not...

I have done really well. Ironically today a parcel arrived, with things I'd ordered at the end of May. So while I did have a bit of an anticipation thrill, I hadn't bought anything or ordered anything in two weeks, which was good for me. Until today... when the EF drape front dresses were further reduced, and I got to see the colours for real in my parcel. An irresistible combo! But I intend to rectify this somewhat by putting one on the style exchange. I got one back in the early part of the year that didn't turn out to be a colour that is good on me, so I'm going to call this a replacement

And don't beat your self up about undos. They are a necessity. I hope

Thanks ladies! It was a purchase of necessity, so I don't feel too terrible about it.

Shedev, I'm glad I wasn't the only one sucked in by the sale though!

Laura, good luck with your remixing for the second part of the month.

Elizabeth, EF dresses are hard to resist! And if it's all going to even out, at least you're not upping your overall wardrobe number!

Oh my...I am just not good at this! My mum came to town for my son's high school graduation and we ended up going shopping and lunching. One of my own HEWIs appeared while I was out helping my mum find a few new items for summer. I have been looking for some casual tops with a little edge for AGES and nothing ever seems quite right...until I walked into the store and there it was. On sale. Ummmm.....ya. So it is now mine. And I love it.

To keep everything in balance, I did purge 2 items from my closet.

My undie situation is getting dire. I may not be able to wait until July...

Marlene, casual tops with edge is my HEWI too! And with a sale, it would be hard to resist. Other posters have made exceptions for HEWI and undies too, so we're probably not doing too badly, right? But honestly, there's no use beating yourself up for something you don't regret because of arbitrary standards. If it works for you, it's still a good decision. And well done on the purging.

I have not done well, but I have not been frivolous, so I count that as a win for me. I am in the midst of a ton of work travel which is always a really challenging clothing time for me, probably not the best time for a SYC challenge. This is when I realize what I really need. But I've been smart, at least. I picked up the white Chrissy flares Angie wore recently, and got them at a good price, and I wore them for work. And I picked up some pjs on sale after realizing I forgot to pack some.

I hereby declare HEWI's to be allowed. If they are truly HE, then we would be foolish to let them go, right?

Sorry for the possibly dumb question. I'm assuming that SYC is "Shop Your Closet" but what is HEWI?

Viva, I always struggle with work travel too. I agree one of the goals of SYC (aside from not spending) is to evaluate your wardrobe and whether it's working for your needs. And if it's not, at least you can get a better idea of what you need and make smarter purchases. So well done on that front!

Elizabeth, that sounds good to me!

Kathleen, HEWI stands for Highly Elusive Wardrobe Item. It's that one piece you are always keeping an eye out for that fills some major hole in your wardrobe, but you can never seem to find. So many people here will snap it up immediately if they do stumble across the right piece.
