June challenge: Chrissy white flares and the deadly third piece

Two WIWs in one. Lots of travel this month, so last week and this week I have been on the road. Last week, in Orlando, this JCrew dress looked and felt great, but with the A/C the third piece was necessary. Unfortunately, the little boxy jacket (that I am carrying in the picture) was terrible with the dress - so aging and instantly made the look really conservative. Definitely the wrong piece.
Today I am in San Fran (tomorrow Denver) and I am wearing the Kut Chrissy white flares Angie recommended recently (got them on Amazon). I love how they fit and feel, and this jacket (BR) feels like the right third piece. In the summer, I must have a jacket all the time it seems.

Love both of these outfits viva! The dress is great on you and I can totally understand your thought about the boxy jacket. The flares are sensational on you with that jacket.

As I sit here in my office shivering, I know just what you mean about the third piece! I love the blue dress and the white flares. You look great in all of them. I often struggle with the third piece with dresses, especially in the summer. Today I'm wearing a black and cream sleeveless printed dress from AT Loft with a cropped black short sleeved cardigan. I'm going outside for lunch (to warm up) and the cardigan will definitely stay here inside. The dress looks a whole lot better sans sweater, but I'm freezing! I like the look of a denim jacket with summer dresses, but I feel that they don't look dressy enough for work (at least in my place).

Linda, I know what you mean. I wore a denim jacket (dark denim, thankfully) to meet with the clients yesterday, not intending to keep it on, but it was SO COLD I had to wear it as my third piece. I was not totally comfortable with that. It's a bit too dressed down, even though I can be the more casual side of business casual with what I do.

Third pieces right now are laughable in 95 degrees where I am. You look great in these outfits.

I'm intrigued by those jeans and wonder if I might wear white flares more than the white skinnies I've had for a few years that I never reach for.

You look about six feet tall in those flares!

WRT jackets and dresses, it seems like you always hear some version of you can toss this little jacket on over everything, but really you can't because it needs to be just the right length, just the right tailoring, just the right color.

Love , love those flares on you. Super flattering. And what are the shoes in the dress pic? I think I love them Really pretty J Crew dress too. Jacket-over-dress is the single hardest thing for me to get right. I cannot tell you how many times I've tried to do this, and ended up with a reject pile on my bed of pretty much every jacket and sweater I own. What is the answer? I too have to have one with me when travelling or in big offices and meeting rooms . A denim jacket sometimes works, but it feels so ubiquitous, you know what I mean?

I'm headed to Calgary on the weekend, and am really looking forward to hitting up J Crew, Zara and Nordstrom. I would really like some different stuff .....

Both great looks, the shoes totally set that dress off as being stylish. The white flares are perfect on you, a wonderful fit and shape. I love them on both yourself and Angie.

Flares and jacket look is sensational! The dress is lovely and love those shoes. I get the issue about the jacket. Boxy jackets are tricky. I tend to carry a cardigan but they can also look conservative imo.

Wow, you look beautiful! The J. Crew dress is gorgeous but I hear you on the problem with the jacket. How about that orange Zara jacket Angie's been sporting? Would it be too long, do you think? It would add a fun pop of colour.

As for the flares outfit -- WOWZA. Your legs look a zillion miles long and it is elegant, fresh, and stunning on you. Love the BR jacket with this also.

Suz, that is such an interesting idea - the orange jacket with this dress. I think the color could help the conservative issue, and I also think it really helps to have a jacket whose sleeves can be scrunched. May be looking for a Zara in Denver.

Janet, I feel like a million bucks in these jeans. It's a totally different experience than the skinnies. I am completely sold. Does require heels though, so I will keep my skinnies for flats days.
