I'm a pretty relentless, ongoing editor. I usually have a few things up on eBay and a few more consigned locally.
The house I'm in now (~1400 sqft) is double the size of anywhere else I've lived, and though its closet layout isn't ideal for our daily-wear clothes, it has some great tucked-away storage that I use for off-season items and as a holding zone.
In September, I went through my summer stuff as I was putting it away til next year. I selected eight things for the chopping block: two denim cut-offs that are pretty trashed; two pairs of sandals I'm finding uncomfortable; matching running shorts and racerback tank purchased right after DS was born and now way too big; a jersey dress and skirt, both starting to pill. The cut-offs went to the recycling center (which is taking textiles again, yay!); the gear and footwear will go to consignment in the spring; the skirt and dress will probably be demoted to beachwear next summer, assuming I still like the look of them next year.
Onto fall... I've been feeling a bit dissatisfied with my long sleeved layering tops, so I examined those first. Two cheapie merino sweaters are on the chopping block because they're too itchy, and two long sleeved button-fronts are going because they are outlier colours that I never reach for -- pink plaid and tan pinstripes.
Today, I went through jeans, pants, chunky knits/toppers, and winter dresses/skirts. I am saying goodbye to my oldest jeans -- a pair of magical midrise bootcuts (90s vintage) that seem to fit no matter whether my weight is up or down. The seat and inseam ate developing holes and the hems are fraying. I'm saving the tag though, so I can try to hunt down a duplicate pair on eBay!
Two pilly/holey sweaters and a vintage plaid Woolrich jacket with a big tear are going into the nostalgia/dress-up box in DS's room. I can't wear them out of the house anymore, but can't bear to part with them as they hold many fond memories.
My editing won't shrink my overall numbers very much, as I would like to replace the two merino layering tops with less-itchy alternatives, and do hope to add another pair or two bootcuts/flares now that they're coming back!
No pics of the summer stuff, but here's my cold-weather cull. Rejects in #1 and #2 are on the right.
