The Joie silk nautical print top that I ordered came today and it is not meant to be. What a disappointment! I am such a stickler for pattern placement when it comes to stripes. While the side stripes match up perfectly, the stripe on the hem in front is interrupted. The neckline and back are both fine. I feel an expensive brand like Joie should be perfect and the hem mismatch would drive me bonkers every time I wore it.

Am I being overly particular? How do you feel about pattern placement in a case such as this?

Unless the hem is curved? It's kind of hard to tell. I still think it would bother me though.

Gosh, that's a tough one. I think it could bother me. However, it does visually lift the front of the top, giving it a lovely, flattering roundness that keeps it from looking too boxy.

It's silk with the cordage printed on?

That must be from fabric stretching when cutting. Looks like it happens in multiple possible places based on your images and others out there.

K can shop, it has the slightest curve to it. I can't tell if it was meant to be that way or just not sewn properly.

Ceit, yes, it is printed on silk.

I think it was made wrong, especially if it's OK in the back. I would exchange it for another and see what that one looks like.

I think something is wrong. I can barely stand to look at the pics. I'm pretty sure that I couldn't wear it without breaking out in hives. I'd return for sure.

Agree, it looks like a "second" or imperfect item. It may be intentional but it does look a bit wrong. I would send it back. I really love the cord stripe though, a "twist" on the usual mariniere. Interesting that it is styled in half tuck in the catalogue photo so you can't really see the hem!

I'm not normally a stickler for pattern placement (my plaid blazers!) but this would drive me crazy at a hemline in a stripe. Too bad! Expensive and poorly made should not go together.

Would you consider sending it back and having them send you another to see if it's different.

Well, once you notice something like that and it bugs you, it will always bug you, trust me. Maybe if you exchanged it the next one would be arranged better.

So annoying! It almost looks like it is semi-tucked, even when it isn't. It's a gorgeous top Debora -but so maddening when something like this happens.

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who feels this way. For the price they are asking it should be perfect. I considered sending for another one but now I am not so sure I should bother, especially after seeing the photo on the website with the imperfect neckline. Maybe the whole lot is damaged. That might explain why all the sizes are still available at the sale price. Oh well, there are other delicious things out there to tempt me.

I had a top like this from UO that was $20. I tolerated it because it was $20. This should not happen on a silk Joie top.

I think that it's mostly due to the curved hemline combined with the striped print -- bad combo! I'm super fussy with stripes too (they have to be matched at all seams, and balanced along hemlines and necklines) and couldn't enjoy this UNLESS it was always semi-tucked.

If you wanted to put a few minutes into checking, you could ask for the phone of a specific store that showed more than one in your size, then call them and ask an SA to do some QA for you.

Honestly I don't even think I would buy a cheapie top like that. There's just no need for that and because of the placement of the stripe it's quite glaring isn't it!

Could you call CS and see if they will replace it with a better one. I do like the top on you a lot - maybe this particular top is just a lemon?

Thanks all for weighing in. I slept on it overnight and am going to return it today. Sara, I agree. I just wouldn't enjoy wearing it. The happiness factor is not there.

I'm still trying to figure out how something like this could happen with a brand like Joie. Production shortcuts?

Hehe, I guess I'm the only one who would not have noticed that had you not pointed it out. Now that you did, I can see how it's a bit annoying. In my own mind of, "make it work, can't send anything back", I would reason that at least it's centered, it's on the bottom hem, and the hem is a bit curved. But I'm not suggesting you just make due, if it bothers you, send it back. I'm ok with it though, and it looks great on you.

That's just bizarre - I would return as well. Will you order another one, since this could be just a "one off"? It is a lovely top.

I think they all have issues -- the weird neckline on the one photographed on the site would annoy me just as much!

Debora, That would really bother me, too, and unless you can try ordering it again (it is really cute!), I'd suggest a return and hope you find something just right, with all the stripes in place.
