Is Jennifer love a pear or hourglass. She looks like a hourglass/pear, but that's what I'm supposed to be. Our body types look different to me. Could I be hourglass/ rectangle instead? In the last pic, I look more pearish, right?

In that picture she looks like more of a pear. I think you're just an hourglass, no pear.

Hmm, but she has a bigger bust than me. Pears can have big busts? I was just wondering, because I got hourglass/pear from most people.

I could be wrong. Her hips look slightly wider than her shoulders. Your shoulders appear to be pretty even with your hips. Shoulders not factored in, I'd say you're a pear, but I think the idea is to look at the entire sillouette-- not just bust/hips. But again, I may be wrong. I'm sure someone more experienced will chime in.

She is a pear/hourglass whereas you are an hourglass/pear. Or maybe you're just an hourglass.

I struggle with this as well. I think I'm an hourglass, basically, but I have hips and thighs, so I also see pear in myself. But I wonder: does an hourglass by definition have some pear in her, because she has hips? My shoulders, bust and hips are all within 1-2 inches of each other.

That makes sense. Cocolion. I'm the same way, my hips are 1-2 inches bigger as well. I wonder if that is an hourglass tendency? If u look at Kim Kardashian, she's said to be an hourglass. However, she has pearish hips as well. So, by that standard, who would really be considered a real only hourglass? Does it even exist?

I see a nice small waist on both you and Jennifer which makes me think you are both hourglass shapes. As a pear for myself, I don't have a waist that is quite as small, it's a little more straight.

What Lisa said. I think that very defined waist is a key element in an hourglass. I am a pear and I don't have that either. Also, I *think* JLH's shoulders are of the same width as her high hip line. Pears usually have a much narrow shoulder line and a smaller torso overall.

To me, you are an hourglass.

Bree, it can be a fun and useful exercise, but it's possible to be too focused on the label. These are all totally made-up definitions and not written on the stone tablets, if you get my drift. Is it really helping develop outfits? What if you get the "wrong" answer compared to what you think or would like?

I think your WIW posts are great and are more likely to help you tweak outfits with regard to top and bottom proportions, colors, and developing a style you love that fits your lifestyle and activities.

I think people tend to think Pear when the hips and thighs are more full and rounded out, but really the measurements and the shoulder to waist to hip ratios look hourglass from front on. I think she looks like an hourglass shape to me, but yes, the hips and thighs are filled out. So if that was a particular area she wanted to disguise or felt imbalanced, she could still use Pear dressing guidelines.

Unfrumped, I agree. I was just watching The client list last night and I noticed Jennifer Loves curviness. I never really noticed things like that before. I looked up her shape and they said Hourglass/ or Pear. I thought, hmm. I don't seem as curvy as she is, so I just wondered if maybe I should be dressing for rectangle tendencies instead.

in my mind, an hourglass has shoulders that match the hips in width. a pear has broader hips.

either can have big boobs. either can carry much of their weight in their thighs or in the hips or in the butt.
