Jeans are one of the toughest items for me to fit. For those who are new and don't know me:
- I am apple shaped with skinny legs, flat rear, and narrow, high hips.
- There is only about 1-2 inches between my hip bone and my belly button.
- I have a waist/hip ratio of 0.8 no matter how little or how much I weigh. It's just how I'm built!
- I am also petite but for some reason petite jeans never work -- the front rise is too short and I wind up with dreaded CT. So I usually have to by regular jeans and then get them hemmed.
- Though petite, I'm medium-boned.
- I tend to prefer a higher rise that hits at belly button or just below it, to suck in the midsection and reduce love handles.
- Lower rises tend to fall right off of me, or I am constantly YANKING them up, because they are annoying me where they hit.
- I never found jeans all that comfortable -- until they invented jeans with stretch. But too much stretch frustrates me due to dreaded bagging and sagging.
- Pocket size and positioning must be "just right" or my rear will look huge, even though it's not, it's not at all...
- The yoke in the back cannot be too long, because if it is, the pockets will hit down too low and make my rear look like it's sagged down to the back of my knees. Not flattering! The closer the back rise is to the front rise in measurement, the better.
- I am a sucker for quality, premium denim.
All these requirements! It's like looking for a needle in a haystack!
When I find jeans that work for me, I like to rave about them. Jeans in the past that have worked for me include AG high rise skinnies, AG slim mid rise boot cuts, COH Ambers and Huttons, UO high rise skinnies, and RL.
A few weeks back I slipped into National Jeans Company, I meant only to breeze in and out to check out their leather jackets. The sales person -- who knows what I like -- coaxed me into trying on some jeans. They are these:

At first I refused, because I have tried Joe's jeans on in the past and had no luck. But the sales person insisted, and I'm glad she did!
These fit AMAZING. They hit every requirement on my list above! And they are comfortable! They are a lower rise than I normally wear, but still fit just fine (even without a belt) and don't annoy me. No love handles. The denim is stretchy enough to be comfortable -- I could easily wear these on a plane ride (my ultimate litmus test), yet not so stretchy they bag out. I have worn them about 5 times so far without needing to wash them due to bagging/stretch issues.
They are ankle length and on me actually hit below ankle, but that means no hemming required. They are perfect length for ankle booties or ballet flats or pumps. The ankle opening is 10 inches -- these are not jeggings.
They are supposedly high rise but I'd say they are mid rise. The rise on mine (size 26) is around 9 inches. They work perfectly for tucking tops and wearing with a wide belt.
These are my new favorite jeans!
