jeans for fall

I just read that the biggest jeans trend for fall are, of all things< mom jeans..Old vintage Levis and high waisted,,,UGH. Skinnies are still going to be around, and I doubt that I will ever find high waisted that will fit me properly. This maybe another pass trend like cold shoulder for me.

As for jeans I like my slimmer BF, skinnies, and crops.

They've been trying to get us to buy "mom" jeans for a few years now. I for one never will. I also don't have anything particularly high waisted because I don't care to. I just pick what I like, and so can you, because with jeans these days, almost anything goes. There are so many choices out there that you won't be stuck with a single trend like we used to be.

They can also keep telling us that skinnies are "out" but they are NOT out and haven't been since they became a thing. Everyone still wears them; they're just not cutting edge anymore. I continue to be surprised that so many retailers keep pumping out skinnies, because I figure the market is already saturated and that everyone already has them. Who are they finding that still needs skinnies? Beats me.

For my own fall jeans, I'll continue to wear crops, flares, maybe cropped flares, straight legs, and relaxed skinnies, depending on what works with the top(s) that day. I've been getting into details like side slits, side lacing, and...well, I have a pair on order that I don't know if they'll work or not, but they're also in the side-detail camp.

Retailers have to come up with something "new" to keep us buying stuff. I wouldn't mind having a pair or two of higher-waisted jeans--but Mom jeans weren't a good look on me way back when and wouldn't be good now. But I was one of those who said skinnies weren't for me, but my closet is now 75% skinny. Also, I can't believe how many pairs of jeans I own now.

As I've become more apple I like a bit higher waist so that I don't always have to wear a belt. Even then, I don't have the right curves to keep low-waisted pants from gradually sliding down.

I agree with Suzanne. This isn't a new new thing. There are many jeans silhouettes available out there, although YLFers would know better than I which are fashionable. The mom jeans I've just dumped weren't only high-waisted; they also had lots of extra material in front, almost like gathers, that made them very frumpy I don't like really low waists, am ok with fairly high, like bottom of waistband on belly button.

I think mom jeans look best (& are targeted to) on those who don't have real mom bodies-- think tall, thin, no body fat (basically my 14 year old) and I think to be fashionable all the other elements (toppers, accessories, hair) can't read dowdy. I've tried a few vintage leaning Levis but it just wasn't for me.

fashiontern, you remind me that the fashion world tries to bring back things that refuse to come back, like the pleated fronts that it sounds like your mom jeans had. Another thing I see crop up is paper-bag waists. Really? I wouldn't deal with something so bulky and fussy...maybe somebody would.

Just for the record, I didn't wear mom jeans in the 80s either. They were called that because they were uncool. And mainly, yes, they looked frumpy!

And MsMaven, I also avoided skinnies at first! This is because some of the first styles I saw were too tapered or tight, I just didn't like how they looked. But there were so many out there that I gave them a try and found some that I did like. I think it really came down to cut and fabrication. Skinnies take up less and less of my jeans capsule as I've branched out into a variety of other styles. I do still wear them though.

This also makes me think about other styles that I said no to at first, like boyfriend jeans. Now I have one pair of boyfriend and a couple that are called "girlfriend," whatever that's supposed to mean! Again, it was about specific pairs that I liked. I still wouldn't wear the truly baggy boyfriend styles.

I love jeans, especially skinny jeans, straight leg jeans and high waisted jeans like mom jeans. I have a high rise. I think that's why I like them. They fit me better than other jeans.

High waisted jeans always looked good on me. They made my waist look smaller and my booty look good, too. I am eager to try on this style to see how they look now that instead of having the body of a young Mom, I have the softer, fuller body of a GrandMom. I'll be looking for brands with a bit of tummy control!

If it is true you better stock up now.

Although I do not like the term "mom jeans" if they are in then nothing can stop the trend.

I am on the search for new denim. Highwaist wide leg is no longer my go to because of my new baby pouch.

I like wearing jeans a lot, but I have struggled with the 'mom' jeans. I bought one pair, and it may have been because they were slightly too big, that I struggle with wearing them regularly.
