Jeans at Macy's?

Ladies, I need some help. The jeans I've been wearing ...they must not be worn again. I vow, here on YLF, to never embarrass myself at work again with the 7:00am decision of, 'oh, they're not that bad' and then wake up at my cubicle after the caffeine has kicked in and realize, oh, yes, they are that bad.

I was given a giftcard to Macy's but the last time I was there, they had jeans in about 50 different places and I have no idea where to start. Here's what I'm looking for:

-Either straight leg that's not too narrow, or slim bootcut

-A basic dark rinse

I can't afford the premium denim (unless on steep sale) so I'm hoping to get some recommendations for non-premium brands that have worked okay.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

Sinead, I have to run, but remind us of your body shape? That'll help with the jeans recommendations.....

I love Kut for the Kloth skinnies (which are really more like straights)....they are good for bigger thighs, tush, hourglass/pear types.

I like to start with looking at Levi's and then maybe Lucky jeans. I faint when I see what some of the "premium" denim costs. Can they really be that much better?

Levis have always worked well for me - but hey have many different styles so you might go online to levis.com to target what you want.
Macy's vary from location to location but DKNY is worth a look at as well.
Kut from the Kloth are great - not sure you will find at Macy's but Nordstrom Rack has on discount quite regularly.

Premium jeans tend to hold shape better (minimal streching) and last a long time with proper washing so I get the investment.

Macy's has Calvin Klein and DKNY, both of which should have a suitable style for you. Also try the levis, they have a million different cuts it seems and I have a few I like and others I've not liked.

I am absolutely no help, but I just wanted to commiserate with you. I recently donated last year's jeans so I would quit wearing them. And I also feel overwhelmed in Macy's. So we're like, twins or something!

Isis, I'm a pear shape, but I've gotten a little thin (need a few more pounds to fill out jeans) so I'm no longer sure of my size. Kut for the Kloth is one I'll try- don't think I've ever tried those before.

Annagybe- the jeans I wore into the ground were DKNY and, I have to say, they lasted pretty well.. I'll definitely be pulling out some of those to try on.

Hmmm- Christieanne and Meredith, I haven't tried Levi's in years, but I'll try on a few. And Christieanne, I agree about the premiums- I got more compliments in my David Kahn jeans than any other pair I've ever had. I have seen them on deep discount at the Rack and when I can, will be on the search for another pair. And I will take better care of them this time!

JJsloane- another vote for DKNY. Calvin Klein has always been really big at the waitst on me, but that might be different now.

Oh, Claire, yes, those past-their-prime jeans sort of sneak up on you, don't they? One thing that I love about YLF is that it really makes me stop and consider and admit to myself when something has gotten shabby. But I do hope from now on the moment of realization happens before I leave the house.

Macy's- what is it about that place? Wish you were here and we could help each other. My DD is the best at that- she marches through the racks, stays focused and pulls out everything that looks like it might work. I'm going to channel that attitude!

I really love Kut From the Kloth. They're my favorite non-premium brand. IIRC, some Macy's do carry them.
