Jeans as ponte pants? Or show me your pontes!!

As much as I love my H&M cotton pants, and they rock my world in summer, they are becoming a little chilly to wear during winter, even with warm layers on top. I wear my black ones most, so I thought about investigating ponte pants.

But then again I thought maybe buying a pair of skinny UO jeans in black would work just as well? I'd only wear them under tunics, so think I could perhaps get away with denim at work. Then I'd have the bonus of being able to wear these casually too. What do you think - good/bad idea??

If you think its a bad idea and you own pontes, please share where you got yours from so I can take a look around at those!! I haven't really seen too many in shops here.

I am expecting a pair of premium ponte knit skinny pants (retail at around $140) to arrive tomorrow. This will be my first pair of high end legging type knit pants and I'll report back if they are indeed worth so much more money from my perspective: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/30.....rchresults

All my other leggings have been in the $20-$30 price range. They are fine for casual wear but totally lack polish.

What I want to know, is what are those killer black super skinny or legging type pants that those stylish women were wearing in Angie's photos from Europe/Milan?

This is what I am hoping these ponte knit pants I have coming will look like and wear like.

I will be watching this thread too for other's input.

In both black and white. The black is distressed like the navy denim.

I highly recommend them and think they are a great value for the price. They also have a lot of great reviews and comments on the website. These are big step up from the old plain cotton leggings, are quite a bit heavier fabric and mimic real jeans but are super comfortable like plain leggings. They are definitely casual wear though and leggings, not jeans or even jeggings in my opinion.

Oooh Claudia those pants look nice.....please do let me know how they go. Probably more than I'd like to spend though, given my H&M pants were $15 each We can watch this thread together waiting to hear from others. I want more of a pant than a legging though, I already have black leggings but wouldn't wear them to work with a tunic top. Jeans (not blue)/pants on the other hand could be a differnt story.

I think the ponte knits are more like leggings because of the thinner fabric and super stretch than jeans. That's why I keyed on the leggings.

Have you tried the jeggings (in black) that truly look and feel like jeans?

I have Levi's like these. They look and feel just like real skinny jeans but way more comfy.

These particular ones are too short in the leg for me to wear other than tucked into boots, but that's why I bought them. You can find some styles with a longer leg inseams.

Hi Yublocka,
I have the UO skinnies in black and love them (thanks to your suggestion). They are not really a denim material but a softer cotton. I am not sure if they would work for your environment but do not read as denim.

In Australia, Crossroads and Katies have some ponte pants, although the Katies ones look a bit short in the photo.

yublocka, I realize it's probably not the price range you are looking for, but seven for all mankind does a really awesome Ponte. They hold up really well to wear and washing and are very forgiving in all directions.

Tam, with your great figure I think you cannot go wrong with a good quality ponte knit pant. Have you seen and touched them in person? They are really much thicker and more like pants than leggings are.
The jeggings are great too. The ones I have I would only wear as leggings as I don't feel they are enough like pants to be worn as pants. I actually keep my top quite long while wearing ponte knit pants too, but to me they are far closer to looking like pants than leggings.

Oooh Jean I was wondering how you went with the UOs!! So glad you like them!! Did you have to size up on the black pair vs the blue pair? That's what some of the online reviews suggest. They look great on you! I love the rise as well - and aren't they insanely comfortable?? I know what you mean by not reading as denim - if my pair weren't blue I think I could get away with it - thats what makes me wonder about getting the black as well!!!

Stringy, is crossroads a real-life shop, or just online? I don't recall ever seeing one! It's been a long time since I've been to Katies, but I'll try to take a look there too if I can - thanks!! Do you have a pair of pontes?

San I haven't really, that's the problem!! I haven't been to shops here in a while, so don't know what I'm missing. I have felt ponte before though. I am liking the sound of the warmth and extra structure vs jeggings though. Where are your pontes from??

Inge I don't think I really need jeggings as such. I have skinny jeans and I have leggings and skinny thin cotton pants. I want some warmth which I'm assuming ponte provides, as would the UO jeans (not much but more than I have now). Do you have pontes? Which pair???

Oh yeah- you have to get a nice thick pair of ponte pants for the winter Tam. Mine were from NY & Co, and I am hoping they do them again next year.

Khris you don't have an URL for yours either do you? They sound nice and cosy, but I think honestly I'm still leaning towards getting a pair of jeans that I can disguise as pants and wear year round. The downside of pontes vs jeans/jeggings for me would be that theres a large part of the year I can't wear them. Seems like a waste.

No, they don't have them anymore. We don't have a real long winter, either, but there is something to be said for having a warm and comfy pair of pants for when you need them.

I have 3 pairs. An plain jeans style from Marc by Marc Jacobs, an equestrian style from Vince, and one with a leather panel down the side from Alice + Olivia.
One thing I've noticed is the higher end ones are often dry clean only, which is fine for my lifestyle but may not work for you.

Crossroads is a real-life shop, I see them next to Millers stores usually. I don't have any ponte pants myself, since denim in all formats is fine at my work and I've just got some new skinnies. Will be interested to see what you end up with!

Stringy I think what I'm going to do is look instores here....hmmm I don't know where there's a Millers either but I'll keep an eye out. I think I have missed the North American internet ponte options. If I can't find anything convincing in stores here I'll go for the UO skinnies and see if I can get away with them. At $58 they are probably cheaper than buying pants anyway!!

I am sure I saw a pair of ponte pants in Target (Australia) the other day, Yublocka. That was our local Target Country store but I am sure the city stores would have them also. They were about $40 from memory but you may be lucky enough to strike one of their regular sales to make that an even better deal.

I got mine at Macy's - Inc brand. I've seen very similar at Ann Taylor. Yublocka, you are built like me in the hips/butt/thighs (just with longer legs) so I think you would absolutely love the fit of either, if you can find them. Unfortunately, I checked both sites and don't see them...

I got both black and gray and wore them both constantly all fall and winter. The gray pair was quite versatile but didn't hold up as well - already starting to pill. The black still looks like new.

I vote ponte pants versus denim simply because the former is much more comfortable. Seriously, it's like wearing sweat pants!!!! I could sleep in mine. I traveled to Hong Kong in mine and was quite comfortable.

I was able to wear my ponte knits into the late Spring here. Was worried they'd be too warm, but they were not. Like more substantial leggings. It's now in the 80s here so they've been put away until the fall.

Doh kaycee I was at Target yesterday. Didn't see any though, but I never really look at pants in Target. What section were they in? Have you got a pair. Lots was on sale yesterday. In general I have been very underwhelmed by Target lately though - I used to love shopping there but apart from a dodgy tshirt I bought yesterday, nothing has caught my fancy in aaaaaages.

Awww Shiny now I'm really regretting not trying any while I saw you guys all linking them online. All I could think about was summery clothes then. I think you're right about us being similar shapes. I'll have to have a really good look in stores here it seems!!!

No I didn't buy them but needless to say I am kicking myself about that now! I am pretty sure they were just mixed in with other styles of black pants in the work wear type section (and in fact I am almost certain that they were tagged as work wear or career classics or something along those lines). Our store is a "Target Country" but if anything the city stores would have a greater selection I am thinking. Hope you can find some.

Oh pufnsuf thanks so much for checking!!! I haven't had a chance to go anywhere near shops, so this search hasn't progressed anywhere in the meantime

Yesterday I bought a pair of Seven Ponte pants, which were nice. However Target has a pair for only $19.99 that fit so well. I normally don't buy clothes at Target, but these pants are good quality.
