JCrew Mint silk blouse K/R (with updated photos)

I know I've been a little spotty on YLF lately, but I'm hoping you will forgive me and weigh in on this blouse.

Last week when JCrew offered 25% off, I ordered this mint silk blouse. It finally arrived today, and I'm trying to decide. Mint isn't my absolute best color, but it is nice and spring-y and on trend. I'm trying it here with a navy sweater and mid-blue jacquard print vest. I like how it works with these darker blues, and a good silk blouse is always useful….

I love it - especially with the vest however if you don't love it then that's another story. Do you have other blouses you feel better in that will do the same job? If you do then it's better to return this one & wait for one you love.

Try wearing a white cami under the mint blouse to increase its intensity. Then add a light topper.

Brilliant observation, Angie. I knew something wasn't quite right about this shade of mint, and your advice to increase its intensity with white makes perfect sense. I need colors that are bright, light, and clear. I should write those words on the inside of my closet door!

Caro and Ingunn, you make good points about how I feel about the blouse. I was on the fence, which is why I posted it as a K/R. I like it, but I don't love it.

So, I think the blouse is going to go back. There is probably a more perfect bright/clear mint blouse out there for me.

The grinning/thinness, noticeable especially with those double-layer patch pockets, is too much for me. If you could wear a similar-colored camisole underneath it it might work.

I think you made a good choice. It looks great, but if you're not in love with it, return it. Life's too short to wear clothes you only "like".

Even if you've already made up your mind, try it with a white cami as an exercise we can all ooh and aah over?

It's funny, but this thread has kind of clarified for me why I don't love sheer/light blouses when I try them on. They aren't *there* enough. At the same time I don't like crisp white or light-coloured opaque button-downs either... INTERESTING. I'll have to try the cami trick, making sure I bring one into the dressing room. I guess the trick is balancing some sheer with some statement...

Ok, by popular demand here are some photos of the blouse with a white cami. Clearly, I'll need to tuck or semi-tuck because the shirt/cami is "grinning" like crazy!

I think the white does brighten up the mint, but I'm not sure it's enough to make me want to keep it.

It looks good but if there is a color that you would LOVE, you should go for it! But the mint looks good and I think it would be cute with white on the bottom too!

You're a bright spring, right? I don't think mint is in your palette. It's a lot better with the cami, but I think the colour still isn't doing you justice.

I prefer it with the white cami and as a layerng piece. On it's own it's a little blah. But as a layering piece with the navy it's just lovely. Depends on how much versatility you would like.

I really like it. It seems like that classic cut, as well as that soft, cool pastel color, were made for you. I wear similarly cut shirts sometimes and often feel like an imposter. This is your style!

Great experiment , though. I like Una' term of saturated pastel. This is why sheer pale blouses drive me crazy. I got one for spring but plan mostly fully tucked over cami. With the long lengths and hi- lo's of blouses, it's so hard not to have 3 or 4 different lines and color densities going on.

I'm with Una - voting for a more saturated pastel. I don't find this a contradiction at all.

I think you're right to suggest it's a fabric issue. This cardigan - https://www.jcrew.com/womens_c...../29350.jsp - is a similar color, but it looks much richer in cotton.

They call it turquoise but it's not nearly as saturated as you'd expect from the name.

Thanks all! I still have a lot to learn about color, but this experiment taught me some valuable things about saturation and intensity. As Ariadne noted, I am a Bright Spring so bright and clear colors are best for me. The white cami helps brighten the mint's intensity, as many of you noted (thanks for the tip, Angie!), and the colors I combine the blouse with can either help or hurt the situation (as Deborah noted).

Una, unfrumped, and adorkable, I agree that I need a more saturated pastel if I'm going to make this trend work for me. Thanks for the links!

The final verdict: I'm not feeling 100% on this blouse. Back it goes!

Wow the white really brightens up the mint and I prefer it with a lighter topper. Now you know what to look for in a new mint blouse. Happy Shopping!
