JCrew lilac stripe sweater: which size?

I have received this lilac sweater in size L and now I would like to have your input which size to keep.
L is on the left, XL is on the right - I have an idea which one I prefer but I will reserve it for later
Please vote: Yay - on the left
Nay - on the right

Bonus - orchid sweater arrived as well in size down - and I am sure this is the size I am keeping. Actually the tag is already off...:-)

Another bit of proof that sizing is whack! I prefer the XL in the lilac sweater -- not as much difference between the two sizes in this one, and I like the drape.

I tried the orchid one on in the store, and the arms looked stretched out on me, too. The L was too tight. It was like there were two sizes between them.

I prefer XL in the lilac one (I have that one as well, and have it in larger sixefor me, S). I also agree on keeping the amethyst in the smaller size.

Wow! These both look great on you Sveta! Such pretty colors. I much prefer the XL in the lilac over the S! I think the XL is a more current silhouette and the L just doesn't look that comfortable on you!

I prefer the fluid fit of the XL for the stripe sweater, but the smaller size in the orchid. Great colors, too!

Not reading the other replies, but my gut said Large. I usually go for a bigger fit but I think the large is plenty fluid. However, they both look fab.

Thank you all for your help! You confirmed what I was seeing - that XL fits better than L in stripe lilac sweater. It feels a bit bigger but not to the extreme and I think it looks more modern this way (extra length helps too).

Beth Ann, you are right - difference between XL and L in the lilac swewater is much smaller than in the orchid one: I do feel that there are 2 size difference there.
Now I have a challenge to fit extra 4 items into this box so I can use a free return against everything I ship back....
Angie, I also ordered to try telegraph pencil skirt in bright hydrangea (such a pretty color - Inge should have it!) It is a stunning skirt but a bit on the thin side for our winters. I ordered size 12 and it was huge so I must be at the most 10 in JCrew skirts now (yay! does wonders to my self-esteem!) If I ever find dressy tal boots I will be tempted to buy this skirt...for now it goes back.

Sizing is crazy! I prefer the drape of the XL of the lilac and concur about sizing down in the orchid. I often find that the larger size just gives more weight to allow better draping - particularly the back view. You have the shoulder line to carry off sizing up without looking lost in the fabric.

I can't believe how much I like the larger size in the sweater with the stripe, and how much better I like the smaller size in the second sweater. Your instincts are right on Sveta. You chose the most current (and I believe actually flattering) size in both. Cheers!

Agreed and agreed on the fit of the jumpers. Both are gorgeous on you, Sveta!
And you ladies know me so well:-) I love the Telegraph pencil skirt, it's such an excellent length for taller women, and the cut is excellent too. I think my skirt might be a slightly darker shade of purple, but I'm not 100% sure (a bit hard to tell from the photo). And I hear you, I would love to wear skirts and dresses this Winter, but -- and Angie mentioned that in her recent blog post too - so much depends on whether or not I can find tall boots to go with them. Fingers crossed for all of us!

Inge, as soon as I pulled that skirt from the package I thought of you The color is very pretty - I think it is similar to the Tippi sweater, neeed to compare them. I am really tempted but saved by the fact that I am swimming in that size 12
Angie, you are right - sizing is so inconsistent! And it is especially frustrating when you don't have an option shopping in B&M store before the ordering and returns and shipping is not free like in case of JCrew. I think I need to rely on you on sizing for JCrew: if it works for Bridget it should work for me too, right? Inge's help was also invaluable with JCrew sizing.
merwoman, I agree that my wide shoulders help but I felt lost in the orchid sweater in XL anyway

I don't see much difference between L and XL on the 1st (lilac) sweater, and like the longer XL best. Large on the orchid. Those colors are beautiful on you.
