JCrew holiday options: K/R - YouLookFab Forum

I came home from today's trip to a couple of JCrew packages. Not sure anything works. I was hoping to find some kind of fun pretty outfit for Christmas Eve to wear for dinner with my family. I have no real need to dress up as it's just the four of us but we do try to make the night special. I'd rather not spend a lot or get something really fancy; ideally it would be something I can easily use otherwise.

Do you like anything here?

Grey/black colorblock skirt - feels dumpy/matronly, may be too large but I could not go down a size
White sweater with silver/grey trim - super soft, love the fluid feel; could pair this with other bottoms (black or white skinnies or trousers)
Kiwi tweed mini skirt - kind of fun but has some sparkle so how useful? Would wear with tights, either sheer or opaque.
Strawberry suede wedges - more orange than I had hoped.

Wow! I love, love, love that skirt in 2 and 3. Gorgeous, viva. The white sweater, with trim, also really works well with the kiwi skirt and either option of nylons will work fine.

You can't go wrong with red shoes! So happy the packages were waiting for you after your week.

I do like the sweater in #1 but am not that thrilled about the other pieces...

I really like the green skirt but I would pair it with a slightly longer black top. The length of the white one looks good to me, but I like it with black better. Cute ankle boots!

Everything looks good on you and appears to fit well. So it's all "keep" from that standpoint. The next thing to ask yourself, how will these pieces play with the rest of your wardrobe? The first skirt in #1, may feel a little "matronly" to you but it just needs a different top so it's not quite as corporate (which might be just what's needed for some occasions). The white sweater with the mini skirt is not corporate at all -- if you're looking for a sassy Christmas outfit, this is it.

# 3 looks so fresh and chic to me! But is it a one- time wear thing, or use for other occasions?
Like the easy fit of the white sweater-- I think it just needs other bottoms to balance the fit.. Would you wear it with pants or jeans or other pencil skirts?
So agree with CocoLion-and this is where I have trouble, too- it's important to se how these pieces do or don't work with what you've got. Otherwise they may be " fine" but not help you create the outfits you need.

The green skirt is neat -- would you wear it again? The white sweater is nice, and I don't mind the dark skirt, but I think a different top would look better with it.

I like all the pieces and feel they are versatile so from that standpoint I vote Keep. I guess you have to decide if they work with your wardrobe enough to put into rotation this winter.

Love the whole outfit it 3. I thik the green skirt would be awesome with tights and I love how the black makes it pop. Very fun and elegant. I like the skirt in one. I second Ceit, I just would style it differently. I think the knee length reads as more conservative but that might also make it very useful. Only you can know what you need and what feels good on. But it looks great. The sweater looks like a beautiful cream hug. I like the idea of jeans or black skinnies maybe with a faux tuck. But the pieces themselves and the whole outfit in #3 look fabulous on you!! I think it's play in your closet time to see how these pieces work with what you already have. Good luck and enjoy!!

I like the sweater and would love it with other bottoms (sparkly skinnies or cigarette pants for Christmas Eve?) I love the skirt in 3, but I agree it might be tough to integrate to daily wardrobe.

Looovvvee the green skirt!! Very unique and festive. But I am not sure if its a workhorse due to the length. The subtle sparkle doesn't bother me much otherwise. The sweater with black trim is gorgeous too.

I am not a fan of the first skirt for a festive look. But I might change that if the top was a bit more fancy, like others have mentioned. A sparkly sweater? But it definitely will be a workhorse.

Thanks everyone. I am strongly considering keeping the white sweater and the green skirt. The white sweater would be very versatile and is a potential Christmas Day outfit with skinny jeans. The green skirt, while not particularly versatile, does fill a gap in my wardrobe: night out wear. I don't dress up often but I can see pairing this with tights and booties just to go out to dinner with DH. Not entirely sure about this one, but I am considering it. I also prefer it with black over white for dressy, but I think the looser white sweater gives it a more casual vibe that might stretch its utility and work for a local date night. i am also a little in love with the color and the black trim.

Viva, those are the 2 pieces that I was going to suggest keeping. I think the sweater is lovely and definitely versatile. The green skirt is just so fab and looks great on you. Maybe you only wear in one or two different ways but I think it's fine to have some pieces that you wear as a set outfit, especially when it's such a fab look!

LAR101, reaching resolution on this one was only possible with everyone's input. When I first tried on everything, I put it all back in the box and just wanted to ship it back because it wasn't "perfect." So I decided to reach out for help, and then that got me thinking about my wardrobe holes....and then everyone's comments and my own thinking helped me figure out what to do. YLF is teaching me so, so much.

I so hear you. All the time there is the conflict between versatility/ CPW versus something that has high- fab- happiness but won't get as many wears. Ideally an item has both. Not every great item can be a wardrobe workhorse. But some of those gut reactions open up new directions.

To allow for some of that, I find I need discipline in other capsules.

Ooh, the green skirt is lovely! I like #2 with the white sweater and ankle boots by far the most. Though actually, I like everything you chose, though definitely the white top over the black, personally. You're very stylish!
