I haven't shopped at JC Penney in quite awhile, though I did get a great winter coat there a few years back. The thing that drove me nuts was their sales that were either in the morning or in the afternoon. I distinctly remember going to put some stuff on hold at customer service because they were having one of their weird sales again, and the sale price wasn't going to kick in until 3pm. I said, "Do you really want me to put these on hold and come back in an hour?"
The clerk gave me the discount right then and there, but I do find it annoying these silly sales that are only on until noon or after 3pm or whatever the deal is. I feel like a moron having to time my shopping to 'early bird' or 'midnight madness' or whatever the deal is, and to be totally honest - the end result has been me not shopping at those stores!
Don't get me wrong, I love a good sale - but I don't like having to remember a coupon, or having to shop at certain hours of the day to get the sale price. I like it a lot better when a retailer simply says "40% off everything," without saying that it's only between 9 and noon or after 3 or what have you.
Meanwhile, even too many sales - well, it makes me not want to shop for things because I'm thinking in the back of my head, "As soon as I buy this, it'll go on sale in a week..." etc.
I think this is a very good move on JC Penney's part.
