JBrand Love Story and Mother Runaway jeans

I ordered these two flared jeans after testing a return to flares with the Gap Perfect Boot, and realizing I enjoy them enough that I may like to invest further in the style.

Here are the Love Story jeans on me in pics 1-2. My usual size. They are close-fitting but have a good amount of stretch so not sure if sizing up would be wise. I stuck with my regular size in the Gap ones and am happy I did.

I like these. Comfortable and good length. The problem is that they are nearly identical in wash to the Gap jeans (seen side by side in pic 3). What do you think? Is it worth trying these in a lighter wash? I see they are available elsewhere in a light wash similar to the Mothers... Do you think I need to size up? My weight is a little up right now, and I'm getting into a more active part of the year, so I'm reluctant to go up unless I get a really convincing argument. I have plenty of loose BF and tomboy-cut jeans, so I do not want these to be baggy at all.

The Mother jeans do not work at all. Ugh. Disaster. Including a photo (4) even though they're terribly unflattering. The leg is cut slim and tight all the way down the leg below the knee and doesn't start flaring until almost the ankle! And that's on my relatively long legs. Just mystifying. I love the soft denim and the wash, but these are a definite no.

Feedback welcome! Worth trying JBrands in another wash, or let it go for now and enjoy the Gap flares?

The Love Storys look sensational, Janet. WOW. Look at that PPL. They do look a lot like your Gaps though. I'm not sure how to advise you. I guess - if they feel like a more quality piece - you should keep them. If it makes little difference - next. xo

First, the Mothers! Ugh! I don't understand that cut AT ALL. Brave you for posting. What a dreadful pair of jeans.

Now, I love the flares on you! You look amazing in them. As for wash, I agree they are so like the Gaps it may well be worth trying the other wash. I would, if it were me. I don't know about sizing. They do look snug. Do you know if they will stretch out with wear? Since they probably will and your weight is a little up, maybe keeping them is a good idea. I am torn. I hate when jeans that should be fitted are too big, and I am afraid that if you go up, they will feel too big after one day's wear. Maybe see what other's have to say.

Also, another wash may fit differently, so maybe if you do order the other wash, order it in two sizes, just to be sure.

I do like that wash though. Figures it's more expensive. May be worth trying though.

The JBrand jeans look phenomenal on you! I would say a definite keep! I own a couple of pairs myself and love them, great quality and fit. They will look great with your Old Gringo boots too!

I love how they fit you and I don't think that you need to size up. They do look pretty close to the Gap wash. Are they a whole lot more flared or is that similar too? I love the idea of the light wash for summer.

LOVE the light wash for summer. In the same size. More expensive, but it is 25% off! That helps a little, right?

Oh, I missed the 25% off... I should try them, shouldn't I? Ok, I like the fit enough that I'm going to pull the trigger and try the palladium wash. I'll hang onto the others in the meantime.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm wearing the Gap flares today. The Love Story's are a bit more flared, which is kind of fun.

Those J brand are fabulous on you!
The wash looks very similar to your Gap ones but do they both fit the same way? I would have a hard time returning the Js unless the fit was almost exact to that of the Gap.

Janet, the Lovestory's are too much like the GAPs! That is the beauty of GAP. You get the Lovestory look and fit without the price. Put that money into something you really want this season. So that's my two cents.

The last pair you've posted are too light and too tight imo.

Those Mothers! Thanks for posting that picture because when I put on a pair of jeans that doesn't fit right I want to run screaming from the dressing room to the nearest martini bar. But....the Love Storys look amazing! Such a good demonstration that it's not you it's the jeans! I don't know what to tell you. I can't imagine you not keeping them or getting a lighter color because they look so amazing. If you do order the lighter color maybe you should hang on to these until you try them just in case the lighter fits differently.

Yeah, I included the photo of the Mother jeans against my better judgment, in the interest of public service. Between that and my mom jeans post this morning, clearly my vanity is taking a backseat today.

Is there any chance you could post a pic of you in the GAP's as well? I'd like to see a comparison of fit, as well as colour, before offering my very valuable two cents

And you are a trooper! You've honestly shown those of us who hate jean shopping, not to give up. What a huge difference, you'd never know it was even the same body that is inside those two pairs!

Wow, those lovestory jeans look amazing on you! But I do agree they seem quite similar to the Gap pair... I think if I were you'd I'd order the different wash to try!

And those Mother jeans are just ... weird. I have to admit I never got why people liked baby boot cuts, as I think the proportions on those are just weird looking, and this is like an extreme version of the baby boot cut.

Diana, it is a truly weird cut. I have Hudson baby boots that are great -- they're just slightly flared, and it's a gentle, from-the-knee-down flare. The Mothers are from the lower-calf-down! Maybe on someone six feet tall with very thin legs…

The J Brands are insanely flattering! Whether you keep that pair or order a different wash, you must own a pair of those.

Agree with the rest -- the Lovestory look awesome on you!! That wash is SO similar. If it were me, I'd only keep one of those (Gap or J) because I know I'd never wear the other.

Love the flares on you! What a fab shape. Only you can really decide on how tight to go and you've got some great advice already re-wash.

Janet I just received the JBrand flares in the light wash from Shopbop (boo I missed the 25% off!), I can tell how you they look tomorrow. I don't think they are quite as light as the photo makes them out to be based on my knowledge of how denim photographs, but we'll see when I open the package up tonight The Love Story jeans look superb on you! I am hoping I don't have to hem them too much, because a 20" opening is what I was hoping for on my flares and I'm definitely going to loose some of that width ><

JBrand fit you like a dream. I vote to get them in the light wash (which is beautiful BTW) so you do not duplicate the Gap ones. Great fit on you!
Mother jeans...totally weird cut. I thought they are skinnies...send them back ASAP!
