January Purchases and Donations: #Budget Shopping Challenge

Sterling's post about Suntiger's # Budget Shopping Challenge reminded that it's the end of the month and time to fess up. I decided to limit my purchases to 35 excluding underwear but with the condition I also donate the same number of items that I buy. In January I added 4 items to my wardrobe.

NAVY LEITH Grandfather cardigan: It's very lightweight and perfect for home wear. So far I've been wearing it with graphic tees and striped sweaters. And it's blue which is my color of the year.
BLACK Earth ORIGINS slippers: Another awesome purchase. These are really comfy slippers.
GRAY GUDRUN Sjoden dress: I love the similar dress I got from this company two years ago. It has 3/4 sleeves and is more of a tunic dress and this is more of a winter version with longer length and sleeves. The organic cotton material is super easy care and great for travel. It arrived yesterday and I plan to check out the fit today.
BLUE COS jersey sweatshirt: It has yet to arrive, so no review.

My Donation Box got four items: Two hardly worn, ill fitting, and uncomfortable wide leg jeans, one from JCrew and the other from GAP. a pair of chocolate brown Bjorn slides worn only in the house, and my favorite black knit jacket which I disregarded the instructions and washed instead of dry-cleaning and shrunk it a bit.

Thanks to Suntiger for starting this new challenge. And as always, comments, suggestions, and whatever are welcome.

ETA: The Gudrun dress is a keeper and I added photos of it below.

Cardiffgirl: Thanks for the sympathy - I've successfully washed dry clean items before so I guess it was time for some payback.
Laura: That's a good question. I've been trying to upgrade my home capsule this year, so I guess in this case it does count.

bonnie and suntiger, great idea on #budget challenge. after a huge purge, i'm not sure i have any left for a one-in-one-out (although i may be in denial). i think my version is going to be buying only what is on my list of wardrobe needs. the list is quite short and focused, with a strict definition of need. i do have 3 wants on the list mostly so i get around to buying them rather than postponing because of thrift.

bj1111: The Challenge was to stick to a self determined number of purchases. I customized the Challenge for myself with the addition of doing a "one in, one out" because my new home has a much smaller closet. After your big purge, I don't think you need to worry about getting rid of more things.

OH! I had not realized you were doing one in - one out on top of the challenge! Great job!

Bonnie, you always look so chic and ladylike, no matter the outfit -love these, and your thoughtful purchase strategy of the year. I tracked my purchases but it occurred me now only to track donations, too- and- to plan ahead purchases and donations not only for a month or season but all year -then I'll have a bigger leeway for equalizing nr of purchased items with numbers of donation.

FABULOUS additions.

STERLING: One in One out has been difficult for me in the past, partly because my previous home had a walk in closet and lots of storage. One of the trade offs of moving to the coast is a reach in closet plus not enough other places to store things. It's finally time for action and I thought putting it on the Forum would help make me stick with it.
