January Mini Challenge: a new week with pattern mixing

This week I am trying browns with black In the first outfit, I am trying some rather hectic pattern mixing with plaid pants. I have 5 patterns if I stretch it ... plaid pants, tweedy bag, leopard shirt, giraffe scarf and a different giraffe on my shoes. All have some brown and black worn with black tights and long cardi. Too much? I suspect so and would change the shoes for plain black booties and maybe lose the scarf. The second outfit is what I wore yesterday on Sunday. The dress is Peruvian Connection from member Nancy lee with brown tights and added a black felted jacket (not shown) when warmth was needed. I am also wearing a black turtleneck and tank layered under the dress. The little Coach bag and Naturalizer loafers ( both brown) are fairly new to me found on consignment. This was a comfortable outfit on a chilly overcast day.
I welcome your comments and suggestions. Is the dress looking too short on me?

I think the first works. The patterns keep things from getting too heavy.

I don’t think the dress is too short for you... but it may be too short for winter!

I like both looks - the shoes in the first look are adorable but I was wondering if the lighter colored scarf will complement more your fab hair ( solid or patterned ).
The dress is showing your nice legs and fit great!

Thank you, LaPedestrienne, Rachylou, Bonnie and slim cat. The dress is a bit short for winter, that is why I wear tights or pants under it or sometimes over-the-knee boots. Thank you for the compliments on my legs. Many years ago a really wore short mini skirts. Slim cat, a lighter colored scarf is a good idea. I have one that is basically white with some grey. I will be sure to use it next week...my grey neutrals week. Anyone who wants to join in may make up their own rules. Remember to wear pearls for Inauguration Day to support women in leadership positions. I have some for my little granddaughter to wear to preschool.

The first outfit sure works in my opinion. The plaid in the pants is subtle enough (at least on my screen) to read almost as a neutral. Your white sunnies are stunning with your gorgeous white hair.

The dress does indeed show off your very nice legs in this outfit. It looks warm and comfy.

The skirt does not look too short and all and I like your pattern mix and consignment loafers!

I love your attitude, Joy, always ready to try new combinations. I like your tonal mix of animal prints and plaid in the first outfit, though I might prefer either the scarf or the shoes. I would not leave off both, because the three-pattern approach appeals to me a lot. The second outfit is soothing, cozy, and very chic. I am a fan of sweater dresses, and you wear this one well. (Not too short in my opinion.)

You do the hectic pattern mixing brilliantly! It's a slam dunk. The PC dress looks super cozy--not too short at all. I think I'm getting so used to midi lengths that I feel like a lot of my dresses are too short now--but DD's have assured me that they aren't! YLF!

#1 is totally fun the way it is although I do agree with you regarding your suggested tweaks. The dress is definitely not too short. PS: I am now growing in my natural hair (2 months in) and if it turns out nearly as gorgeous as yours I will be thrilled, so thanks for the inspiration!

You look amazing Joy! I do think the pattern mix works, but I agree that maybe a plain shoe would look great and keep the focus higher up to your lovely top and scarf!

The dress is not too short and echoing the comments about your fab legs! I think I might try it with a thicker pair of tights as you mention you often wear it, but that is a personal preference on my part.

I don't find the dress too short Joy, but it's a little clingy on the midsection. Maybe with high rise underwear you'll create a smoother fit?

Your pattern mixing skills are more advanced than mine!
I really like the dress. Maybe the turtleneck and tank underneath was causing the cling that Angie mentioned?
I really like the brown bag and loafers. Great find!

The pattern mix works for me, since it's just the 2 colors. I like the dress too, and don't think it's too short.

Thank you all for your comments! You are so kind. The layers under the dress did cause lumps that I saw in the photos. Angie I can’t wear high rise anything right now. It interferes with the glucose monitor.. I may have to try a new system soon with the sensors placed on the upper arm. It is an insurance issue and a step backwards in technology, but I hope my arms will not get the brushes and bruises that my stomach has. If so, I will be forced to wear longish sleeves all year and loose ones. A. new wardrobe challenge.

Today’s Inauguration Day look with pearls and Converse ( not shown because I was wearing indoor brown patent flats when I took the photo 1/2).
The second look from yesterday shows the black and white Cons (3/4). Both outfits feature my experiments with brown and black. Today’s is black EF black asymmetric cardigan with dark brown Vince skinnies and Met Museum Morris scarf.
Yesterday’s taupe brown pants with an old black sweater and open taupe jacket.

The second look has cool sporty vibe with chunky pearls and fancy bag giving it polished finish ( your striking hair is great accessory by itself of course ! )

Thank you for all the compliments, Angie. Once I saw a box of DIY pearl hair coloring but it was gone in minutes. Maybe when salons open again I will see if I can have my hair pearlized. Y

Thank you, Ledonna. Yes, the dress is very warm, warmer than regular wool or cashmere but just as soft. It is great for deep winter and snowy days.
