The neighbors have gutted and are doubling the size of their house right now, which means lots of loud noises (not jack-hammering though), five feet from our window. The cats were a bit freaked out at first, especially watching the tree they loved to gaze at right outside their window being cut down, but now they aren't too bothered. I close the windows if the noise is loud (usually at 7 am, ugghhh).
There is a hormone called Feliway that you can plug in a dispenser into the wall or spray from a bottle. It's fairly expensive, but it really calms down some cats by mimicing the 'your at home and happy' smell I think. We used it introducing our kittens when one kept stalking and harassing the other and they adjusted and cuddled together quickly after. People also use it for vet trips and moving.
I would have a plan if it's really bad though, like an inexpensive pet friendly hotel nearby you can decamp to for a night maybe.
