Jackets for an inverted triangle

I'm getting lots of inspiration around the web and gradually figuring out what suits me, but I have real problems finding jackets that don't make me look and feel like a football player.

I have only one that seems to work well and its a fitted suede "jean jacket" which works open, buttoned and with a belt on top. I also have two black blazer type jackets which I never wear because I feel they make me look mannish - which I hate! I've been trying the longer cardigans as a substitute, but I'd really like to find a couple more "real jackets" to give me more of a polished professional/casual look.

I'd love to hear any tips or advice anyone has on finding a style to suit my shortwaisted, busty, slim inverted triangle.

Is it ok to bring up this thread again? I am having the same issue and did a search...does anyone have anything else to add here? I have a huge desire to wear some actual jackets instead of cardigans all the time, but I always end up feeling like I am ready for football season

Hi Janine, I'm a rectangle but a strong secondary inverted triangle. Not sure if these would work for you, but the types of jackets I've found work for me are like your banana republic jacket with slim or shawl lapels and longer and/or lower stance like boyfriend or tuxedo jackets, and I've found soft fabrics like knit jackets work well too. The other type of jacket that works well for me are collarless cropped jackets that are relatively boxy and straight all the way down.

Agreeing with Gwennie about possible styles. I have a large bust too which compounds the problem. Something with a small amount of stretch to give a little more shoulder room works well on me. Counter-intuitively sometimes jackets with shoulder detail can help too - the width looks like a design detail rather than me

I am also a rectangle but with a strong shoulder line and agree with what Gwennie said. I am also very picky about where shoulder seams fall. I never want them beyond my shoulder unless halfway down my upper arm. The best place for blazers is slightly in from the edge of the shoulder to visually narrow them.
