Jackets and dresses!

I was reading a Brazilian fashion blog talking about the perfect jacket for each outfit.
They say that for dresses the best jacket is a long one, not as long as the dress (they say that to create visual interest the jacket should be a few inches shorter or longer than the dress).

For two pieces outfit (skirts and pants) it can be used a jacket that hits on the mid of the hip.

I never thought of that, but I had noticed that every time I tryied to combine a short jacket and a dress I felt odd and ended by leaving the house with the dress + my trench coat.

Interesting, Rute. I've never really thought about this. Were they talking about dressy dresses and jackets? What about the cropped denim jackets that so many ladies wear so well on the forum?

they were talking about classic jackets (I don't know how you say...) and winter jackets, not denin jackets nor cardigans.

This is a great guideline. But there are countless dress/skirt and jacket options in my opinion, because the variables of the dress/skirt and jacket can differ - and so can the body type. Marry those three variables harmoniously and you have a whole slew of additional combinations, especially when you add footwear as a variable too.

Dressing is art, not science :0)

Seems like the article is talking about outerwear type of coat/jacket, yes? I tend to think of the short jean or moto jacket as a layer on the level of a cardi or shrug instead of a longer trench/peacoat/anorak.
