Jacket help please - YouLookFab Forum

So... I bought this jacket at a thrift store a couple years ago. I love it. But I’m not sure if it really suits me, and thus, I’ve hardly worn it. I don’t necessarily care if it fits my current moniker of Sensual Romantic, though that would be bonus points!

It’s an extremely soft sweatshirt material but still has some body. I love the ruffly trumpet sleeves! And as trumpet sleeves go, these seem bigger than Carmen Miranda’s fruit headdress!

Does it work on me? For me? I feel uncertain about how to wear it, or what to wear it with. It’s definitely a statement piece. I tried it on today with very skinny jeans and one of my few tees. To me this is a good barometer of how well a statement piece is working. Because I have a little one, unless it’s a special occasion, I don’t want to spend 30+ min getting dressed just so I can wear a statement piece and have it look good as a whole. (Does that make sense?) Soit’s gotta work with easy essentials.

I tried it with and without a belt over it, under it, and just alone (sans belt). Not sure if a belt helps?

So what do you think?? I would love to wear it more. Part of me would be sad to let it go. But I also don’t know if it works best for my body type? It feels voluminous on me and I’m not used to that.

I really like it, the cut hits those “romantic” notes and I think the casual and practical nature of the fleece material is a good match for your lifestyle.

I think that for it to have the best impact, you need more contrast between the top and the jacket (as is, they sort of bleed into each other and it’s hard to pick out he cool shape of the jacket). I’m imagining it tossed over a fitted, berry-colored pullover for example. Does that sound appealing to you?

Unleash the jacket! 3 & 4 are my favorites here, though I think I'd like it best of all if you could wear the belt on the tunic lower down, or tuck something into jeans with a waistline lower than where the belt is now.

I want this jacket to work--it's fun, and could work with lots of patterns, as this one suggests.

I think it's cool and does suit your moniker, as well as your lifestyle. I also like it unbelted ... it's like an easy topper, but with a lot more interest than a boring old hoodie!

I love the sleeves but not so much the middle section when belted. It looks good unbelted, but then it looks a bit too gamine, maybe?
I do think belting and waist emphasis works well on you.

For me, definitely looks better unbelted. I like 4, no belts anywhere. I like the 2 colours merging because that feels both sensual and romantic to me. And surely the easiest? -Just throw on and go? I vote keep and wear like that

I'm all for making a statement item easy to wear, and I like the way you have pictured it in #3 and 4. Over a white or grey t and jeans or shorts- and there you go:)

Have to say I like it better with the belt! Seems to go with the curvy curly romantic mood. Agree would look better with a different color tee under it.

Looked a second time--gorgeous with loose hair and belt.

I think it suits you very well, looks great with your hair, love the way you styled it and can imagine a lot of potential variations.

Prefer the no belt at all version.

I think you can just wear it loose. Because of the fabric it is also good to wear at home. Looks good.

I like it in 3 and 4 but with a contrasting darker fitted top. Some brooches on it might look nice too.

Sounds like the vote is: keep it, and wear with no belt or belt under jacket. So I'm noting the for future ensembles!

FashIntern, unleash the jacket-- I love it!! I will play with waistline/belt height. That could really make it more interesting.

Smittie, it definitely has a bit of gamine to it.. Secretly, I feel there is a sliver of ingenue/gamine in me that likes to pop out once in a while. So maybe that's why this jacket appealed to me!

SarahD8, Alicewonderland, I totally see what you ladies mean. I think some contrast would help make the jacket pop. Love your idea of berry color, Sarah! Berries and plums are some of my most favorite colors.

MsMaven, I secretly love it best with the belt I have a feeling there will be occasions when belting it will call to me. I love all of the volume it creates, similar to a peplum only more ruffle!

The Cat, the volume is the one thing I both love and hate about it. It's got a very full cut in the torso, and I am realizing I just have to be okay with letting my waist go. I very much appreciate your comment about my elegant figure <3 <3 <3 That made my heart spin!!

Sounds like the silhouette is what's challenging you. I also have a small waist and curvy shape so tend to avoid tops or toppers with that bell or swing silhouette, especially if they're shorter and end across my wider thigh line. Me, I would not keep it. BUT if you have inexplicable love, keep it, at least until you feel like you've found something you love more!
Looks like it might work well over a shift or flowy dress in the spring.
