J Jill Frustration (ETA Update at bottom)

So I ordered two of the silk button front J Jill blouses on May 20th and hadn't received an email to confirm my order or estimated shipping date, so I emailed their Customer Service department about half an hour ago and just received their reply:

"We received your inquiry regarding the status of order # 40202380. At this time your order is pending authorization. Your order should be shipped out on 5/29/12 and arrive within 10-14 business days by your postal carrier."

That seems like an awfully long time to process an order or am I just being impatient? 9 days before it's even sent?

Wow! That does sound nuts for these days. My orders seem to generally be in the mail within 24 hours. Unless it's a really small company (which I cut some slack), and I don't think it is, I'd let them know you probably won't be back.

Try calling to confirm your payment. I had entered the wrong expiration date (on the J Jill silk blouse as it happens!). I realized that I had never gotten a ship email and called. Fortunately, they seem to hold on to orders forever, and I got it within two or three days of calling.

I've bought one or two things from j. jill, a while back, and their shipping speed and policies were irritating even back then.

My shipping was faster but I did not expect it to be fast based on prior experience.

Wha? That's a long time IMO - are you able to call them, talk to a human, and make sure there was no error in the order process?

That is a long time...almost a month. I have ordered from JJill and gotten things in two or three days. But I live 60 minutes from their headquarters and several stores. I wonder if that makes a difference.

Interestingly enough I was just talking to Dianthus (we live in the same town) and she said her order was a week before it was even shipped as well - something to do with taking that long to confirm Canadian credit cards. Good grief!

Ugh. I sympathize. I have had this problem with ordering from the US in the past also. How hard can it be to confirm a Canadian card? And why do some merchants seem to be able to do it instantly? Strange.

I had the same experience with J Jill. I don't remember the length of time it took b/f they actually shipped the order, but it was well beyond average. I had hoped that was the exception rather than the norm. I suspect it is the norm though.

I really hope you like the blouses.

Yes, I used their online chat to follow-up and I don't get the Cdn card issue at all. The package shipped in about a week but the shipping to Pembina is another week !! I also ordered the shoes from 6pm and they just shipped but are arriving today so at least the shipping is fast.

Shannon, if CBSA decides to inspect the package that can add another week onto the time. We order cables and other electronic add-ons from a company in Hong Kong and they usually arrive in Vancouver in about 3-4 days and sit there for a week or two. Grrrr

I am looking forward to getting my shirts so am not too choked up about it. Maybe I am getting desensitized to the realities of online shopping from Canada.

Ack! That does seem ridiculous....and it's why I gave up on JJill (as did my mom and sisters) a few years back. We all had the same experiences repeatedly: everything always seems to be backordered or out of stock.

Wow - interesting that others have had the frustration with J Jill. Meanwhile I ordered a yellow striped sweater from Gap yesterday morning and got confirmation this morning that it's been shipped (thanks for the sweater tip Inge).

All I know is I hope the blouses fit and I like them 'cause the thought of returning them and ordering a different size makes my head hurt!

Update: I got an email from J Jill today stating that although I had ordered the blouses before their 30% off sale, they are now applying the sale price to my order and because it will be taking a week before they ship due to their Canadian confirmation policy plus the U.S. holiday, they are removing the shipping fee and sending for free. Originally my order for the two blouses (with shipping, duties and taxes) totalled $82.19. I will now be getting my order for $45.67.

I must say I was very impressed by this so they've gone up a notch with me!

Wow. That is quite the discount. Based on the feedback from others who have bought the shirts, I do think they will work. I can't wait to get mine.
