J Crew try-on: Leopard twinset, excursion vest and various pants

I received a J Crew order today and did a quick try-on. Sorry the lighting is so bad. All the pants I got on sale for between $19 and $24, and they are returnable. I think I just happened to be lucky when I was shopping online and some returns showed up in my size.

Photos #1 and #2 are of Navy patio pants in bi-stretch wool and the leopard twinset. I wouldn't wear these colors together, but just wanted to try everything on. I really like the way the patio pants fit (which surprised me). I was also surprised by the twinset - it's very soft and something about the leopard pattern is different than usual. I am not sure what footwear to wear with these pants - nothing I have seems right. #1 are AGL's and #2 the Paul Green Delgado's, both from last year's NAS.

#3: Patio pants paired with the paisley blouse (full tuck) and some leopard kitten heels just for fun. I don't think I'd wear this out of the house though.

#4 and #5: Patio pant in evergreen jacquard. I wasn't sure how to style these. Maybe a black turtleneck and dressy flats?

#6: Martie pant with tux stripe in glen plaid. Again, I'm not sure how to style these. The shirt I have on got all lumpy where I tucked it in, which isn't a good look. Again, I'm struggling with footwear. I don't like the booties I am wearing with this.

#7 and #8: Leopard twinset and Excursion vest with a faux leather pleated skirt I bought last year.

I also bought the elephant charm and like it. I have small wrists and there is an extender on the chain so it can be sized to your wrist.

(I keep on thinking about that twinset. Maybe I need to get it too).

Try the pumps in #3 with the outfits in #1, #4, and #6 too.

1. I like the patio pants also. I like the first pair of boots better than the second. They may need some hem adjustment. I also like the twin set on you. It looks great! I don't mind it with the patio pants either even if that's not how you would wear it.

2. My favorite of the patio pants are the green jacquard. If you only keep one, that's the pair! Wow! They're a great color, and I like the fit too. Very flattering. I think a black turtleneck would look great with them.

3. I also love the Martie pant! What is it that you don't like about these booties? Is it the color? Maybe something lighter and closed toe?

4. Outfits 7&8 knocking it out of the park! My favorites if the pics! Killer!

5. I like the pink paisley blouse, but maybe not with the patio pants. I'm not sure why. It's probably just me, I'm not a huge fan of the color black. There's really nothing wrong with anything here! An amazing haul!

You and I have both been going nuts with J Crew this fall. (I was a bit off them for awhile.) These are the overlap items plus a couple of other things under consideration.

I like the twinset -- the yarn is so nice and soft. As another light haired person I will say I would probably have preferred a more blond leopard this one is a bit on the black side) but I like it nonetheless. And I'm thinking it could be cute with the fuzzy vest or these pants I have not tried on yet.

Some of this stuff has to look ugly and go back, or my credit card bill is going to be out of hand. Especially because I also got my husband the cobalt Ludlow suit and he loves it.

I prefer the patio pants in the jacquard--that fabric is amazing, and is tailor-made for some maximal pattern mixing if you want to go that route.

UmmaLila - Yes, it does look like you've been going nuts with J Crew as well. I was expecting not to like most of the items I ordered, but so many worked out....this could be much more expensive than I planned. I can't wait to see your review of the fuzzy hickory Excursion vest. I was eying that as well. Love the look of those pants as well, but they don't come in petite.

I love all of it. The leopard twin set is gorgeous with blonde hair. I have my eye on it. I also like the excursion vest but I am probably going the fuzzy route. The green jacquard pants are my favourite. They look amazing on you.

i wasn't prepared to love the leopard twinset as much as i do! WOW, its fab. and love angie's idea of wearing the leopard shoes with the twinset...and i love the booties with the cropped pants, especially #7.

All your outfits are superb!

I think I like outfit #3 the best (the one you wouldn't wear out of the house!).

On you, I think the cropped pants look best with a low-ish vamp heel and second-best with higher shaft booties. The low-vamp heeled gives you an 'elegant' look that might be less trendy, but very appropriate for the office.

The jacquard ones seem very dressy. I think a turtleneck and flats would step them down a notch, yes. This would be your 'gamine' look

For #6 (grey and white outfit), I picture it with coloured footwear.

You look so good that it's hard to give any practicable advice.

My preference is to wear the cropped pants with ankle showing. So the boots in #1 is my least favorite look. I think that's highly personal though.

Whatever you decide, you are forbidden to return the patio pants in dark green jacquard! They look great as pictured (maybe with a coordinating blazer)? Or with the black turtleneck and flats as suggested.

I hope you keep everything. They are all amazing on you. I have similar green pants that I wear with a slightly chunky black turtleneck and black dressy flats. I add a bangle and I never fail to get compliments every time. I think it would look really good with a black turtleneck.
