J Crew tees

Hello Fabbies,

I just wondered if anyone can advise me regarding J Crew sizing? Just generally I mean. I am thinking of ordering one of these tees, sky blue and navy tees are staples for me, and I feel like these could be dressed up a bit too.
I don't know whether I would order, xs, s or m.
If it helps, in most Anthropologie tops I'm a small.
Any tips are appreciated! Thank you.

I cannot tell if these shirts are knit or woven. I usually wash this fabric by hand or on delicate and hang to dry. I can't address these shirts, but generally for me JCrew runs true to size or a bit small especially through the shoulders, but I have broad shoulders.

I find their sizing a little tricky. Their tees are cut slightly straighter than my torso, so I am either an XS or S depending on style. I’m an XS in most brands though not always. And same with their tailored shirts - either a 0 or 2.

But, their cuts these days are a bit curvier than a decade ago, I think? I used to avoid shopping there and now I usually find a few winners.

Agreeing with Joy about the small shoulders for T-shirt type material. I’ve had better luck with fitting their sweaters.

Those are cute tops! I agree with Joy about the sizing. On their jereseys, the shoulders seem to run a bit small. I also have broad shoulders, so on their jerseys usually size up and am happy with that.

if you wear a S in Anthro...you probably wear a S in Jcrew...i find both brands sizing to be generally a the same....

I find that in their tshirts I take a M but in the more structured styles I buy a large. I don't have broad shoulders but I do have a large chest.

I'm consistently a S at Anthro and a S at JCrew (typically a 4 in numbered sizing for tops). If you have specific characteristics to address - quite broad shoulders, big bust for your frame, etc. - then maybe size up to a M. But in general, like kkards I find a S Anthro = S JCrew.

Viva: I think a small will likely be right then. My shoulders are average and my chest is flat.

Jussie, I would go for the Small. I agree with the above posters that j crew runs small on top, in particular narrow in the shoulders. I have broad shoulders, and I find that either I take a S, or the style is a miss for me (that is, if I size up to M to accommodate my shoulders, the fit is poor elsewhere). The style you posted looks relatively fluid (as opposed to super fitted) so I think S has a good chance of working.

I’ve also noticed that j crew does a lot of high/tight necklines so that would work GREAT for your need for structure in that area. (It really limits what I can find there, as I need a more open neckline.)

Angie, you might be right - I do have a couple of XSs hanging around. I'm prepared to be proven wrong.

But I'd personally still order a S, which is most consistently my size at JCrew.

There you go, Viv. I usually take an XXS at J.Crew, and Jussie is slight AND can wear her tops a little big. Ideally, Jussie should order the XS and S.

Angie, Viva and Sarah D8: Thanks so much for your wise advice.... Luckily these tops look like they're made of a stretch knit... So that'll be a smidgen more forgiving. If they were woven it's anyones guess what size.
Yes ideally I would order a xs and an s to check! Like a proper grown up lol.

To accommodate my tummy and waist (which doesn't go inwards at all) I think the xs will likely cling too much. Hehe can I get a half size? Probably the stores will invent that at some point in the future...

Jussie, if you e-mail J. Crew, they can give you exact measurements for a particular item. They are usually quick to respond.

Jussie I am Australian size 8/10 and JCrew size 4. Hopefully that helps with the sizing differential. My guess is that you would be XS and a size 2 in JCrew.

I have found the sizing from JCrew to be inconsistent. I take a 2 tall in some items and a 4 tall in others. The small regular items are often cut too large/wide for me in the shoulders. The tall sizes seem to be cut more narrowly through the shoulders. I stopped ordering anything in a regular size.

I have a few T-shirts from J Crew and they are xs. They are not clinging and fit me reasonably well. I also have a denim shirt from J Crew that is an xs and it might be considered baggy.
I find J Crew to be inconsistent in their sizing (as others have said) and to be designed for someone with a more straight body type than I have.

I have a small upper body but a bust. I usually wear an xs or s in tops. I must fit narrowly across the shoulders because that is never an issue for me.

In recent years J.Crew runs very big for my size. For reference: I'm 5'2", around 100 lbs, 34A, and petite all around. In most brands I'm usually an XS or 0. In J.Crew, especially for tops, I'm an XXS or 00.

But then again, as others said, their sizing can be inconsistent, and I've had to size up to XS or 0 sometimes.

Jussie, I wear a lot of J. Crew -- I'm one of the few, it seems, who gets a consistent good fit from their clothes. (In fact, I end up buying from them more often than I might like, simply because they fit and I can get delivery here in Canada).

I think I am shorter than you are, and not as slim, and I have shorter legs. But our overall figure type is similar -- slim hourglass/ rectangle. Small bust. My shoulders are square and wide, but not broad or fleshy, if that makes sense. The overall measurement is about 39" to 40." (Haven't measured for a while so I might be inaccurate there.) If you want more info on measurements etc. feel free to PM.

For reference, I'm consistently an XS in J. Crew knits, a 0 or 2 for woven tops (depending on the cut and how I prefer the fit) and a 2 for skirts and pants. I wear a 0 or 2 in their coats and jackets and a 0 or 2 in dresses, again, depending on cut.

I'm not sure how this compares to Anthropologie since I don't get opportunities to shop there.

Suz, I also get an amazing fit from J.Crew! The other day I tried all these different things and had the rare experience of feeling it had all been tailor-made for my body type (I'm also slim hourglass, small chested). Sorry for the tangent, but I couldn't resist sharing

K.M. -- yes, the clothes do work for some of us, thank goodness, though I sympathize with those who don't get a good fit there. It's so individual!

Viva, Angie, and Marilyn (who like you is a slim petite), and often Smittie also do well at J. Crew.
