J Crew Popover Tunic Arrived -- K/R?

What do we think? There is a little pulling at the bust, you can see it in pic 3.

#1 -- Tucked into matching JCrew paisley skirt with black shoes/belt.
#2 -- same as above but with nude sandals and belt.
#3 -- Worn as tunic with skinny jeans.
#4 -- Gorgeous young model, probably photo shopped
#5 -- Worn with $20 Costco yellow shirt, cropped but not photo shopped
#6 -- Worn with $20 Costco white shirt.

I was hoping I could wear this paisley popover with more than the skirt. Even on sale it was $117 with tax, shipping. For that money I like things to be more than one-shot deals. (I was planning to wear this to the opera in June in SF.)

Yay = it's worth it
Nay = stick with your $20 Costco woven shirts.

I like it alot, but only you can decide if it is a good value for you. I don't like the dark belt in 1.

Oooh, I like it! How much does it pull? I got my regular size (in the striped one) and was amazed that it fit okay in the bust. The shoulders are a little tight if I wave my arms around, but that's always the case. You can definitely mix it with lots of other items and I love the pattern!

I think this looks great on you-with matching skirt, it looks like a dress and you can wear these as separates so many ways(as you showed very well). I say keep it:)

I like how you styled it in #2 and #3 the best. I like the lighter accesories better than the black in #1. It's hard to see the bust pulling in the photos but if it doesn't fit right and you don't think it can be altered to fit, I would send it back.

I like it with the matching skirt and with the jeans - I can't tell very well in the pic about the pulling. Is it uncomfortable? Can you move freely in it?

I like it, but kindof like the Costco versions better. (ducks) For that price you would need to really love it, I would think. How much do you like it? BTW, I tend to always have that problem of woven shirts pulling across the bust. I just wind up pinning it.

Unless the pulling is uncomfortable, I would definitely keep the top too. Would double sided tape help? I love the look of the 2 pieces worn together with the nude belt and shoes. You could even try an obi style belt with it, picking up one of the other colours. I also think it looks super with the jeans.
The Costo shirts look fine for a more casual look. The skirt has so many possibilities - denim jacket, loose knit top, etc. You'll have lots of fun styling it.

OMG, I love them all. What a fab top/skirt. I also really love the versions with the Costco shirt. Thanks for telling me about those, btw. I picked up the coral last time I was there #3 is my fave, I think. The sandals are divine!

I think it looks very cute plus could could wear it with other solid pants besides jeans. How do you feel about i, though? If you're unsure about it and don't feel comfortable in it, you may want to consider returning it.

don't you have white jeans? i can see this with that. also, i see the shirt tucked into wide or flare leg jeans. i would wear it with a tank, leave the front unbuttoned then tucked into the matching skirt or another solid color in the same tone or a white or cream bottom or back to jeans. lots of possibilities, but the shirt is eye-catching and less likely to be unobtrusively remixed. don't you also have a light colored (leather) jacket? that would be a great topper in the fall.

on the other hand, it is a cocolion piece--so rock on!

I see no fit issues. I love it "as a dress" with the nude belt and sandals. For the price, you're getting a dress, and a separate shirt. (Sort of like paying a little extra to get the blazer that makes your skirt an actual matching suit). So in a way, it's more versatile than a dress, because you can split it up. But it is pricey, so you'd have to LOVE it. It does look very good on you, style and coloring wise.

I need to go check out those Costco shirts!

Denise the two pieces together look stunning and my preference is for the nude shoes and belt. I can't see the pulling ay the bust so I can comment. Sometimes I CID wearing a different bra can make a difference.

The popover looks great over jeans and I am wondering if it would work over your colored jeans too, say the yellow and red? Also could you tuck it in a pair of bootlegs?

I think you have quite a lot of options here. I love it.

I think it looks great! Love it with the skirt, and love the styling suggestions. You have so many skinnies that this would look fab with! Is it pulling (meaning, too snug) or just gaping (needs a button right at bust level)? I find that button downs without bust darts, even if they are plenty loose, tend to gape at the bust. The polka dot popover from J. Crew I just got does this. I just sew up the spot where it's gaping, since I'm never going to unbutton below that level anyway.

I think that if you are somewhat unsure, then don't spend the money on this. Would you wear this for more than one season ? My feeling is that if this is a one season deal, then you can do better.

It is beautiful and all the other suggestions are great...your coral pants may look good with this too.

I mean keep unless it really fits horribly. I love it with the skirt, and LOVE the skirt with the button downs, and love the popover with the jeans, and know you have other skinnies to wear it with, too.

And LOL, cropped but not photoshopped. Denise, you are so pretty you need no "shopping" except the online kind for cool popovers!

Love this and am very tempted by it - the colors are much nicer in your photos than the promo shots! How tight is it in the bust? My citron top gapped at the bust sometimes, but since I can pull it on over my head I just sewed up the front in that spot. I vote keep.

My JCrew silk blythe blouse gaps a bit, but i use fashion tape and it takes care of the problem (Jonesy's solution sounds like a great idea).

May I ask whence came those sandals?

I have been enviously eyeing those sandals, too, Sarah. Is the leather nice and soft at the toe, Denise? I love them but worry they might bite into the foot there if someone did a lot of walking in them?

I like it a lot too! I like the versions with the Costco (!) shirts but they are a little more casual -- nice to dress the skirt down. And i love the top and skirt together, very sharp on you! Do you have black skinnies? I bet the shirt would look great with black skinnies.

I tried on that skirt on our DC YLF meetup and liked it but wasn't sure how much I'd wear it for the price. I'd probably get more wear out of that top. Hmm.

Beautiful pattern (and I am not a pattern girl at all) and I even like the matching skirt with the top. Beautiful on you - and so perfect for the opera!

You have to decide on the pulling at bustline but I like all the styling variations especially with colored belts.

I would wear the pants off those! Can you solve the pulling issue? I really like it a little unbuttoned on the model, for what that's worth. I would keep if the pulling can be solved. The skirt looks like a great fit.

Well, you ladies are making me think I might keep the blouse. I had never thought of sewing it shut where it pulls.

I like it tucked but I'm not sure about it untucked.

I think I will try to style it with some other separates before I make my final decision.

The shirts from Costco are my favorite 3/4 sleeve button downs! I purchased two last year that are my favorite work shirts. This year, they are longer and come in bright colors. They are very well constructed, and you don't need to iron them if you pull them out of the dryer quickly. After one year of wear, mine have also become nice and soft.

The sandals are my first ever pair of non-leather shoes. They are from TJ Maxx, Adrienne Vitadinni (I think?), I got them in January for just under $50. They are indeed comfortable!

I am going to say return.

It does not suit the skirt as well as the more fitted shirts you show in the later photos, it is too puffy tucked. And although it looked OK as styled like the model, it is did not great. It was not a 10 to me.

And the shoes are fab!
